Hinges
I have about 20-25 flights on mine with the CA type hinges that came with the kit. No problems.

GSP Katana
I received mine today, the 2 hatch covers are missing. I'll have to call on monday to have them sent out. How many washers did
you use to set the down and right thrust? |
well
bummer on missing hatch covers...
well... i am allot closer.....i got most all done except all of the cowl fitting.. and wrapping receiver and battery pack in foam. and mounting(not sure how i am going to mount them...not a great amount of access ) and final balancing i went out today and fired up the "twin" i was worried about fuel siphoning out and flooding engine.(tank is quite a bit higher then carb inlet) and not starting...i ran it for a while....shut it off....restarted. it and ran it and shut it off and let it sit. it always started... seemed to run well for the most part.. a little rich at low end but not bad... i had "drips" of fuel from carb.when sitting(not running) when tank was over half full....but it always restarted...so.....not sure how i will resolve that. i have some more testing to do. i have a 15x8 on it and i need to tach engine tomorrow.....see if i need to go bigger or smaller on prop ( i have a 15x6 to try as well) and i am going to get a 16x6 . this has taken me a while to get this far.... only worry i have is fuel one...and i hope it ends up ok...i do not want to move tank.... unless i have to..will be a thrashing if fuel issue ends up being ok..ill finish it up by next week. |

Glad to hear you don't have a flooding problem, anxious to hear how yours flys with that twin.
For the guy with the missing hatch covers I wouldn't wait on them to send you replacements. They are just two pieces of balsa sheeting with some covering attached. It would take you about 10 minutes to make both and you will probably want to make the main hatch bigger anyway. |
Engine thrust
I used one waser in each location specified in the instructions for the down and right thrust. I am not really sure how accurate this is though because the two washers positioned between the engine mount and firewall, as you tighten the bolts to mount the engine mount the washers sink into the wood on the front of the firewall. Thats how I did it and it flew fine though.

I just got back from flying my Katana. Man, I like that plane better every time it fly it. The RCS 180 was experiencing technical difficulties so I put the Saito 180 back in until the gasser gets back from RC Showcase. I am going to try and post some motivational pics for you guys still building. I have some pics of my larger bottom hatch and a comparison next to the stock hatch. If I can't get the pics to post here check my gallery for them.

This plane flys soo good. Low speed is great, knife edge all day very aerobatic. Can't say about 3D yet, I just learned to fly 6 months ago.

Bike, I see you mounted the throttle servo in the fuse, I've been having a bugger of a time trying to figure out how to make it work on the engine box.
|
Throttle servo
I mounted mine in the fuse last night, I origionally had it mounted under the engine box on the firewall using the two piece wood frame they give you. It worked fine but it did get covered with exhaust oil. In that location I don't know how long it would have lasted. It was very easy to mount in the fuse, I probably should have done that to start with.

wow i like your fuel tank locale..... i should of done that prolly.. mines in the nose.. i may move it eventually... hatch is good too... i put my battery pack on that part of hat you made removable(tucked it in there and made a little brace to hold it..
also i put servo in front(for nose weight) no bigge if it get thrashed . ,.nothing special.. we will see how soaked it gets... heh may end up moving it too!.. ill toss up a few pics.... i have cowl to carve up still.. and some breaking in to do.. but i am close i think.. |

hey bike what did you do with the 3 leads running down the fuse for servos>? did you attach or support them anywhere>? how about leads in the wings>? (for servo`s)
and what did you do with antenna>? oh nice dash :) heh |
Servo leads
I ran all the leads loose inside the fuse and wings. I connected the extensions to the servo leads with heat shrink tubing so they won't pull apart. I ran the antennea right down the center of the fuse and out the tail hatch cover.
Fud, looks like you will be ready for the maiden flight soon. That twin looks sweet, I'll bet it sounds even better. |

sigh
well damn makes me want a big ole motor..... i guess i could always do that later... this lil twin wont do any of that stuff..
now i am depressed.. that thing sounded like it had power to spare.. i am going to start experimenting with props. on my diabolo plane (one in avitar),,,, and see if i can get it to do some of those low speed tricks... cool as hell looking...(that plane is an awsome flying unit) the manuever where the tail goes over the nose and like rolls on one wing....likea forward tumble (not sure what they call it) is bad!.. i need to learn that one (the one in katana clip) |

well today it flew!... i had a few motor/prop issue`s.. you can read about them on this thread
http://www.rcuniverse.com/showthread...79&forumid=145 but got them worked out so far... flew awesome!... i had a small taxi issue on the ground when the wind picked up.... sort of garfed up the wheel pants so i have them off for repair.(looks dorky but oh well) ran 3 tanks through it....going out tommorow again nice snaps(slow) inverted....inside and outside loops.,, ok verical ./////will be better tomorrow.. see other thread on my motor prop issues.... tracks good down the runway. all in all i am happy.... the miss`s are crappy covering..started to peel in spots . i had to fix...then it looses color... and wheel pants jut plain are cheesyy |
