I think I've worked the scale out to be about 1/5 or 1/6th scale...
Does this sound about right ???
Let's see . . the full size Edge 540 has a wingspan of 24.4 feet. The Vectorflight has a wingspan of 5.5 feet.

http://www.zivko.com/EDGE/edge540.html

I make that a scale of approximately 22.5%.

RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

ah ok miloh.I figure i'm as well to go for a 4 stroke if i go for anything...The only this is the cheapest supplier i found that'll deliver to Ireland is in the UK - and they want £280 sterling (~$400US) for it!!! Now even posting it over from the US will not cost me $120...seeing at the plane itself is costing $80 to be posted over...

Does anyone know of any (US/other) supplier that sells this engine for about $280 or near enough...? That wouldn't mind going to the bother of writing Ireland on the package?

Where can i get a slimline pitts muffler as mentioned by jcattera in post 190?

P.S. For anyone else interesting in buying the extra 300s 66" version the backlog as of today is 10 days according to VF :)

Markjsca1,

Sorry to hear the difficulties in locating the a distributor for the Saito 100. I'll keep looking for you.

The Slimline muffler can be found at:

www.slimlineproducts.com or 480-967-5053. They make a muffler specific for the Saito 100. The model # is: 4009S. The S stands for the smoke option. Although, I don't plan on putting smoke in the plane. At least I have the option to use it when I am ready.

If you don't want the smoke option you will need to get model # 4009. The price is $89.99

I love my Saito 100. The weight is only 550 gms. If you go with the YS 110, that is a bit heavier, but more power and more cost. I'm not sure what the weight is on the OS 91 2 stroke.

Considering I have unlimited vertical with the Saito 100, save you money and get the Saito 100. You'll love the sound of the 4-stroke. This engine idles very low 2000 RPM and does not quit.

Hope this helps and good luck.

RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

John,

I reworked the wheel pants 3X before they finally worked and didn't break-off. They were breaking off even on very light landings $&^%!

Using the original wheel plastic pants the VF sent, the thing that finally worked for me was 1 layer of fiberglass on the inside and 2 layers on the outside of the wheel pants. I first cutout the recessed area of the plastic where the aluminum landing gear attaches and covered the inside and outside of the wheel pants with fiberglass cloth and resin. Let it dry for a day. Sanded the outside smooth wiith my dremel and painted white.

Then I followed the procedure that the Hanger 9 Edge 540 uses when assembling their wheel pants. They epoxy a small light plywood piece just above the axle hole on the inside of each wheel pant and use a 4-40 blind nut to keep the wheel pant from rotating on the wheel axle. You'll have to drill a clearance hole above the axle hole on the aluminum landing gear for the 4-40 bolt to pass through. I decided to use the Dubro 5/32 wheel axles instead of the ones supplied by VF.

Now, even on bouncy landings they are holding tight. I can even pick up the whole plane by holding on to the wheel pants!

I would attach the adobe file, but this site doesn't give that option. The directions for adding the extra support are on page 27 and 28. If you want it, email me at: [email protected] and I'll send it to you.

James

i presume most people who have the saito 100 in this plane have it fitted sideways...I noticed on that site that they make a muffler for both inverted and sideways mounted engines. Now that's cool!

I still haven't sourced a saito distributor but i'm on the lookout. Thanks for your help jcattera :D

James,

That is exactly what I was going to do with the wheel-pants. There was a discussion early in this thread about this very issue. I even bought the Sig wheel-pant supports mentioned by David M. or David C. (I forget which one). However, when I got started in the assembly process, it was apparent that it would have been more trouble than I wanted to deal with. Especially since I wanted to put different main gear on it in the short-term furture anyway. Check out these mains: http://www.aero-works.net/accessorie...ear/index.html

They fit the 60/90 size Aero-Works Edge, so with some pretty minor retro work they should work fine for the VF Edge, and jazz up the appearance too. I could have sworn I saw wheel-pants there before, but I didn't see them today. I'm sure Stans or one of the other suppliers will have them though.

David - sorry about the confusion you are right, I gave bad info.

Weighed the Edge last night on a very innaccurate scale with everything but Battery and Belly-Pan. Total was 6.5 lbs. I am allowing for a 1 lb. deviation and shooting for a AU Wet weight of 7.75. Will take to local FEDEX and have weighed on Digital scale there. If my scale is anywhere in the right neighborhood, I am pretty happy.

The Aero Works 60/90 540 Edge look like a nice plane. I wonder how it matches up against the Extra 300S 66" Vector Flight? They say it is 100% 3D capable?

Can anyone here with a VF Extra 300S 66" tell me how much their plane weighs without fuel? I am weighing in at 8.2lbs.

This is what I have:

Saito 100
Slimline Pitts muffler
1000 maH battery
Aluminum Tru-Turn spinner
14 oz tank with no fuel

Thanks in advance.

The VF planes are not 3D machines but very nice otherwise, yes it will do knife egdes, blenders, waterfalls and many oher fancy moves but dont expect too much in the high alpha dept, harriers etc. If it is possible I have yet to see it. Everyone has their own version of what a 3D machine is and his to me is something in between a 3D and IMAC machine

Now the AW Edge is supposidely more agile in the 3D dept, it has larger control surfaces so you can do more with it.

good luck

If it helps, my Edge, with the YS110, weighs just under 9.25 lbs.

- and it goes like a rocket with a 15x10 prop! I fit a 16x4 now, and that seems perfect for this type of plane. Not too fast, but with stump-pulling power!

Have any of you guys weighed the 66" Extra without a motor installed or can anybody tell me what it will weigh with a motor that comes in at 1 pound 14 ounces.
Vector says it weighs 8.25 pounds with a .75 but not what kind of .75 they used to get this info.

I have had a 58" for three seasons now and what a performer. I started with a .61 supertigre, moved to a .91 saito gk and have a .100 saito gk on it now. WOW! Performance is unbelievable with that engine. Mine has been recovered and is pictured in my avatar. Buy one, you won't regret it.

What servos is everybody using? Do you need hi torque on the rudder or will a good BB standard work?

RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

I'm using Futaba 3001's in both my Extra 300, and Edge 540 with no problems. I've been buying the helicopter flight pack from Tower, as it comes with 5 servo's, and a 1000 mah battery pack........... http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXXJ53&P=0
I'm really glad to see so many people have discovered Vector Flight. Their planes are great, and the customer service is the best I've ever encountered. It's nice to see nice people do well in business.

I'm using the standard size ball bearing Hitec 425BBs - including for the rudder.

They work fine.

Miloh,

I am using 5 of the Futaba S3004 (Standard B-Bearing) in my VF Extra 300S 66". I ordered them at: www.servocity.com

No problems here.....

Have a look at this, I got it just for my new Extra. Of course it will hold 6 planes so I need 5 more planes!!! LOL...
Hope the wife sees it this way hehe.
VF just sent me an e-mail saying they have my check and my bird will ship in 3 or 4 days.
How long is it taking everyone to get these things ready to fly?

Hey guys!

For my Saito FA-100, I'm going to try out my new "APC 16x4W 3D Fun Fly" Prop this weekend. I replaced the APC 14x6 prop.

The guys at the local hobby shop recommended it. They said my engine will love the prop, and it will allow the engine to idle a lot lower without quiting. I'll let you know how it goes!

I should be able to pull out a tree stump with this combo.

I have the VF Extra 300S 66"
