hey we have one and we put a saito 50 in it.set it up full tail heavy.our throws are beyond to far.. rud 2 1/4 in exp 65% elev 1 3/4 45% ail. 7/8 in exp 30% pretty tough to hover but it does it . flatest flat spins youll ever see we had it gaining altitude back up in the inverted flat spin.be carefull landing with such big throws it will snap out. the rates are very wicked and take some getting used to... hope this helps

I can't get mine to flatspin, please tell how you can achieve that. Where do you have the CG?

Thanks man

well i cant tell you this its alittle more than cg..its difficult to explain. there are many ways to enter but the easiest i think is this... fly at about 45 degrees(up) let off the throttle and hold off till the plane begins to stall. ease it into the stall as soon as it stalls bang the rudder to the right and the elev.full up
(down stick.)slowly hold imputs and feed throttle.if you time this right it will develop a flat spin pretty quik.the stall point ithe important part if not acheived right the spin will never develope into a "flat" spin.it will be more like a nife spin instead.you can also invert the spin by tring this
pull vertical at half throttle chop throttle(at high enough altitude)hold perfect vertical till plane stalls just before the stall point push back on the stick to push the plane inverted.not to much just enough to be invert position then bang left rudder and hard up elev.now the hard part its a feel you must see the plane and imput the controlls at the right time to work. go out and practice with these and let us know if it helps... the dave patric areobtics book is a real good way to start.but mainly its watching the plane closely and useing your sticks to minipulate the plane into the desired position... like i said hard to explain hopw

I was going to say try either a O.S 46FX, O.S 50SX or the Magnum 52 2 stroke.

reaper329, what prop are you using? I can hover at around 1/3 throttle with mine, which has a Thunder Tiger Pro .46 in it......I'm using an 12.25x3.75 prop, and that helps a lot. I can also pull vertical out of a hover with that engine/prop combo.

well I crashed it. got ti to hover with a 12x8 prop thanks for all the help guys I am looking for another one to buy any anyone selling I also ran into guy at the field with one with a rossi 45 on it and that is the ticket. it has crazy power and 3d capability's. I have never seen such a good match. the rossi weighs less than the 46la and puts out 2.0hp same as the 65la wow

12x8 on a 40FX can we say overproped WOW your 40FX should have done with no problem with the right prop.

I have a Rossi 45 and I have a Magic Extra but they
do not co-habit !!!
I dont think that the extra will hold up long with the rossi as the extra is built light.

The rossi likes a small prop 9x6 or so and revs like mad.

That engine wasdefinetly overpropped. I ran the same prop on a OS 60 4 stroke which will let you run big props. That engine will hover the extra no problem. Just put a apc 11x4 on it and it'll hover around half throtle. Saw one hover and climbout on a 40 la!

I got another this time I put a magnum 28 in it just to see the difference and I like the way it flys but the hovering is not going to happen I talk to the guy with rossi and he told me he had to put spruce in the the fuse right where the plastic top meet the balsa those who own one know what I am talking about. anyway I screwed this one up too but got over 33 flights out of her the 3d was great and the stall speed was a lot better with the lighter setup. I checked on getting a new fuse to replace the one I cracked into little tooth pics doing hoverbatics but they want $40 I can get the kit new for 65 well I hope everyone is having a good time with their T-REX (tiny red extras). if anyone has parts please let me know I have to get a new fuse or old good one I would be willing to trade a good wing or cash thanks

RE: Modeltech Extra 300 what engine to hover

I have a Magic Extra with an Irvine .53 spinning a 12-6 apc. It hovers less than 1/2 throttle. Effortlessy. A 46FX or 50SX would hover no prob. I imagine any good 46 would also. Maybe even a 40 with the right prop (11-4).

I have an OS-50 on mine and hovers great at just under half throttle. I can pull out of a hover into unlimited vertical. Running a 12X5 prop at about 13K. The OS-50 is a perfect match. [>:]

RE: Modeltech Extra 300 what engine to hover

I agree the 50SX is a good match but if you want to save $60 go with an OS 46FX and a 12.25-3.75 prop. That is a killer 3D combo. I have it on my Ultra Stick 40 and it hovers no problem.

Thanks For the info I just was looking to hard I guess well here is is I made my own fuse to take the super tigre .61 12x4 prop. very good flyer I am going to whitch the .61 with a mvvs .49 when I can find one almost the same power but a lot lighter that ought to be the perfect match. let me know what you think
