Red Wing MX2 Build
 

Hi,

I am relatively new to the hobby but I think I have been involved with enough passion, having built and wrecked a few models, to give me some confidence to build and share my experience of the Red Wing MX2. I recently received my plane from Tim who has been one GREAT service provider in terms of ensure his customers are treated like customers should. Tim, I am happy to report that the model arrived in Montego Bay, Jamaica all in tact so, thanks again for your great service and attention to detail. I have attached a few pictures of the packaging which I must say was well done to allow the model to survive the journey through Miami International Airport on American Airlines to Montego Bay. As you can see everything is included in the package as advertised n the Red Wing RC website. The parts are well manufactured andfeel very lightwith joints neatly glued. I am pretty sure she will by within the published all up weight range based on what I am seeing here. Hardware looks as good as any you can find from any other supplier.<br type="_moz" />

You will see that I got the combo package with the DLE 30. I Intend to use Red WIng supplied Power HD DS090 servos everywhere except on the throttle.<br type="_moz" />

I really like mine! I got it last Tuesday, and flew the maiden yesterday. My JC EVO had a little problem above 3/4 throttle, but it flew beautifully at 1/2 throttle. I now got the carburetor cleaned and ready for a full throttle run!

The manual is easy to read, if you've put together a few ARF models. Make sure you pay close attention when you see steps that list out different specs for different planes. The plane goes together easily and quickly.

You are absolutely right, the manual is very easy to use. My experience may have been influence by the fact that I watched the MX2 build videos posted by Tim on Youtube a couple times. So far, I have assembled the tail and main wheels; the main wheels are installed. I will continue tomorrow, bed beckons and as its been a long day I have decided to answer the call.

Hey pardie, I can see that Santa came a little early this year, good for you. Sure looks like she is going to be a real beauty, just take your time and I'm sure that all will be well. Make sure to keep the build pictures coming.

Hey Guys,

Just a quick note to say that I got my review MX2 in the air last night under full power! What a sweet flying plane. I REALLY love this one, and the JC EVO 28cc gasser is matched perfectly for the MX2!

It's just the right size- big enough to be seen and fly well, but small enough to fit in most vehicles.

I don't think I'll ever let go of this one!

Ireally like these gas powered airp-lanes in this size. Big but not too big so they are easy to haul around and relatively affordable. Imight just have to look into one.

And this one flies so nice! It's a true gem on low rates- very predictable and stable, and on high rates it's just WILD!

Sorry for what might appear to be an abandonment of the project.My daily bread and butter activities, the job i mean,had me exhausted over the last two nights. Iplan on doingsome more work on the modelthis evening so you can look out for more pictures.

<span style="font-size: 9pt; line-height: 115%">Imanaged to do some additional work last night focussing primarily on the wing servo and aileron control hardware assembly. As Istated previously, Iam using Power HD servos which I installed using socket head screws which reduces the likely hood that I will have a screwdriver slip and puncture the covering.While installing the anodized aluminium control arm to the supplied servo circular control horn I realized only that two of the holes lined up. Itherefore had to bore two holes in the aluminium arms.

The pre-cut slots in the aileron for the control horns were easily identified and once the covering was cut away applying 5 minute epoxy and inserting the horns was as easy as 123. The supplied ball links and push rod was easy to assemble and install despite having to drill the control horns on the aileron and also the aluminium horn on the servo to receive the supplied socket head bolt.</span></p>

I just received my MX2 from Tim and have to say that this is the slickest ARF I've ever seen. Despite the pounding the box took while in transit, everything survived in great shape. The color scheme is stunning, the quality of the parts is of the highest order, and I can't wait to see it overhead! Tim's the real deal when it comes to customer service. If you've been sitting on the fence wondering about this airplane, wait no more and treat yourself to one.

I must agree with you Cpt Crash, Tim is an outstanding guy! When I was emailing back and forth with him to set up the review on the MX2, He was nothing short of great, answering all my questions, and getting back to me in very short order. If he treats all his customers the way he has treated us, he'll go a long way in his business!

Agreed, we all are. Tim really goes the distance to take care of his customers.

Capt Cash, as you build your MX2 I would appreciate any tips on modifications or enhancements, I did say I am pretty new to the hobby and building. I too am looking forward to seeing this bird in the skies. I think I am going to leave off the graphics and keep the wings clean.

Well, I did get the footage shot for the video on Weds night, but I am going to save that for the review... Sorry, I can't give it all away now! I am working very hard on getting the review done, so you can all see it. I have been so impressed by the project, both assembling the plane and flying it- I can't wait to show all of you a whole lot more in the review!
