I particularly liked that the flight video was more at "my level".
The all out 3d videos are absolutly amazing.. but I and not many can fly to that level.. so it is nice to see what it would look like "for me"..

no complaints about the 3d vids though ;)

I´m still waiting for all my parts to arrive, and I have my plane and motor being held for me at the supplier here in spain.. just waiting for pay day :D

I see you are having trouble on finding a suitable oil for your engine. You are lucky to be over in Europe. The most knowledgeable authority in gas engines is right over in the Netherlands. His name is Pe Reivers at [link=http://www.mvvs.nl/]Pe Reivers Model Engines[/link]. He specializes in MVVS engines but he is a all around knowledge database when it comes to petrol engines. Check out his oil chart under the Petrol Engines tab, is a very extensive list that will provide you with alternatives to be found in your area. There is also a real good paper written by Mark Lawrence tittled [link=http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Oils1.html]All About Oils[/link] which is very informative.

Here in the USA the best oil I have ever tried was Mobil1 2T Racing oil which now is discontinued. Reivers sell two very good alternatives, one is Putoline RS959 two stroke racing oil, and he also stocks the original MVVS oil that is made by Mobil. Don't be afraid to use fully synthetic oils all the way from the break-in period. The use of organic based oils for break-in was an obsolete practice because of the lack of high quality synthetic oils in the past. The only difference is that during the break-in period you will need to run a higher oil concentration (i.e. 32:1 during break-in and 40:1 thereafter.

Looking forward to your build log, hope you start soon.

I'll vet that writeup as largely accurate and easily understandable to the layman. A good job by the author. Some details on chemicla processing is not entirely correct but its close enough for me to not split hairs about it. A good read and excellent info in there to follow. Some of the oils are a little outdated and have been replaced.

I agree, it's a bit outdated none less it have real good information. Specifically when it comes to oils certification (API, JASO, etc.) and how much alike all current automotive oils are formulated. You must note also the author is more concerned on oils utilized on motorcycles than anything else. For a very good research article on several oils used specifically on R/C petrol 2 stroke aero engines [link=http://www.rcaer.com/userfiles/file/RC%20Aero%20-%202%20Stroke%20Oil%20Testing%20Summary.pdf]check this paper from RC Aero Products LLC.[/link]

Not yet I had a doctors app in Marion today. When I went by the field could see you guys having fun. When I went back about 3:30 PM you all were gone. How about flying next Friday?

Weather, Weather, Weather. If it allows it I'll be there.

We left right at around 3:30. Everyone had something else to do. In my case I had to pick up the G- Daughter from Volleyball.

There is a fellow at our field that bought this plane and he says that there is very little ply inside the fuse and there is no place to mount the switches. Have you guys ran into this? I was looking at the YAK 55.

Even Just as is, without modification you can mount switches there are 4 places inside the plane, two just behind the cowling and two in the middle near the rudder servo tray. If you are using big switches like some made by Fromeco then you probably would need to mod, but using DSC or regular switches you should be fine. And I'm sure the 30cc Redwing RC Yak-55 should be madesimilar.

RE: RedWing MX2 Build

T3beatz,

Thanks for the info. I think I'll wait and see how these planes hold up. Personally I'll take a little extra weight (ply) to get a plane that is more structurally sound and hold up under the vibration of a gasser.

RedwingRC 10-20-2010 05:48 PM

RE: RedWing MX2 Build

Hey Zippi -

Yeah, you can fit a switch in, you just have to add a couple strips of wood.  It's pretty minor  mod.  But this way  guys can go with a mini or a larger swtich.

As far as the strength - I think tha'ts a good strategy - to wait and get some feedback from your buddies.  I think you will find my planes fly amazing and are plenty strong for a somewhat experienced pilot, and will be calling us pretty soon :)

The first thing any pilot should learn to do is land.  then land well.  Then land even better.  If you can do every 3d manuever in the book but can't land, there's something wrong.  So as long as you know how to land prettly well (and aren't banging it into the ground with each landing) it will hold up just fine.  In the air, we have snapped the hell out of them and haven't had any issues.  You can see T3beatz is extremely hard on his with no issue.

If you are looking for a plane as strong as a trainer, that can be cartwheeled down the runway and be ok, definitly do not look here :)  But mine won't fly like a trainer eitehr (or an overly heavy "FILL IN THE BLANK" Brand)  They are built to be flown just like a bigger 35% plane would be.  With good technique.

Let me know if you guys have any questions.  I'm SUPER busy here in Oct, but I'll try to answer stuff as I can.
Thanks!
Tim

Hey Zippy

Redwing sells a plane just for you and me. I'm rough on my landing gear. The Sboch is very sturdy and has a place to put your switches. I have been abusing mine for about a month. I bet I have over 40 flights between me and my buddies. 30 of them were bad landings on grass. The plane still looks new.

RedwingRC / Tseres,

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm old school I guess and like my planes like I like my woman, with a little meat on the bones :). I have a powerful G26 built by Ralph Cunningham looking for a home and your YAK 55 just looks so much better than a couple others that are currently on the market. I'll keep you boys in mind when I get ready to get another gasser.

RE: RedWing MX2 Build

hahaha ! Nothin wrong with that!  To each their own, and I'm with ya on women

They are built light with 3d in mind.  If you aren't going to 3d, then a beefier sport plane may be more appropriate.

PS, the new sbach 30cc is going to be built light like the mx2, so about 10.5lbs.

<div>The weight has to be in all the right places, if ya know what I mean!:D;)</div><div>
</div><div>Zippy, these planes have plenty meat to do what they are meant to do, and thats fly... don't get me wrong, just like any ARF there are things that each user likes to do just to feel a tad more at ease when flying, but for the most part I don't think any mods are needed, except a little glue in some areas.</div><div>

I always get out the ole dremel tool with a cone shaped stone and releave the area's a little at a time. Works very well.

RedwingRC,

I think I saw this posted somewhere but don't remember where. What is the distance from the engine box to the end of the prop hub? My G26 has been modified and it is 6" from the engine box to the end of the prop hub. Will it fit in the YAK 55?

RedwingRC 10-21-2010 09:05 AM

RE: RedWing MX2 Build

I will double check this (distance) and get back to you.  Did you see the yak 55 page?  It's a hidden link right now.  I need to have a new index page made that shows it

http://www.redwingrc.com/planes/30cc-yak55m.html

I also have a yak 54 in a cool color scheme coming in.  These are both mostly GW planes, but in the spring I am going to have a couple more Redwing planes.

Yeah... they are different; and as all Russian designed planes the full size version is built like a tank. Though I like the Yak, I love the lines of the Sukhoi much beter. So Tim let me know when the 30cc Sukhois are on their way so I send you the deposit[sm=lol.gif].
