The Wallis actually flies. I had a 10 to 15 mph wind almost down the runway and I made two failed attempts and both times it got up about 5 feet and it would just sort of hover and I couldn't get the nose down. I just didn't seem to have enough power to penetrate the wind. A 60 size 2 stoke is recommended but I'm using a 52 4 stroke. I made a few adjustments and added more weight to the noise and the third try up it went. I have flown a lot of gyros but none like this one. Orientation was a serious problem. I made two successful flights and it's the most awsome gyro that I have ever flown. It actually flies more like a helicopter. Very fast forward speed and the fuselage pretty much stays horizontal as opposed to most gyros that fly nose high. Landing was easy. It would hover right down to the ground just like a heli and the wind certainly help. The pictures are after the flight and I will try and get some video if I can get it into the air again.

Mickey, I agree. I think you are a good pilot but this type of control is better than the flapping blade type.

Jim, I don't think I'm ready to write the book yet! But hopefully someday.

I went back to field to try and get some video, and I did, but It's not exactly what I wanted. It was late in the afternoon, flying into the sun and I made it off the ground but the engine sagged so it was a short flight. Almost made it. I tried again but the muffler came off and went through the prop and you know what that does.

Thats really cool! What are you using for the head a swashplate? i saw the flybar but its hard to see the head in the pic. it kinda looks like a teethering head in the pic.
I checked out the videos. Yes i would crash it quickly! I have a hard time with my spad gyro with the wing. Flourcent organe paint on the V stab and the wing tips helps alot.
I really want to try a pusher gyro but i dont know where to begin.
Did you get plans for this gyro?

Hi Grant,

The autogyro is a Wallis kit made by Micro-Mold back in the 70's. I got it from Bill Friedlander at the Gyro meet here in Spring Hill. Bill got it from a fellow from England so it's been around for awhile.

The head has a swash plate with a flybar which gives it cyclic control. This is my 2nd pusher and once airborne it flies great. Getting in the air seem to be more luck than anything. I'm using a 52 4 stroke and they recommend a 60 2 stoke so I'm low on power. I suspect more power would improve my chances on takeoff.

EXCELLENT..WELL DONE...WHAT A MARVEL......Most impressed with the video.
I think the kit came from me or Hugh Mcmillan initially. We had two, one in the box and one we built. All we achieved, after months of effort , was a continual pitch up to about 15ft and then due to a lack of power , drag set in and a gentle descent ensued. Great to see it flying. Orientation as always with such models,Kalt Robin as well, is the main challenge once airborne. Thats why the new direct control such as PT gyro and jim baxters models are so popular and easier to orientate.
You are only the second successful wallis gyro flyer I have ever seen. That is take off and land without serious repairs!! The designer here in england demonstrated the prototype at some airshows and it was amazing.
We used to believe that just as it rotated you should throttle back slightly to reduce the violent pitch up, but power ( we are talking Merco 61 type motors here) and the limited propellor size was our downfall in the mid 1990's.
Most impressed with the landing especially with the rudder canted off 45 degrees , in the motor start position, you really are a bit of an ace. Lets see more video.
