Default PT Profile servo installation

Many of you know that we no longer recommend using HiTec HS-125mg servos except for the rudder position. I just finished another PT Profile for myself to take to the Morris, Il fun fly. This time I used HiTec HS-225mg's for pitch and roll (kept a 125mg for the rudder). Just thought I would post a couple of pictures to show how I mounted them for any one interested. Nothing fancy. Just 2 small pieces of hardwood (the stuff landing gear torque blocks are made from) epoxied to the fuselage. Then a 1" square piece of 3M picture mounting double sided tape between the servo and fuselage with just 1 #2 screw on each end of the servo lugs (used the rubber shock mount and brass grommet).

Mark,
The 125's did not hold up well for me either. After sripping one I did buy a spare and some gears. Maybe I will get some 225's while I am out.

See you at Morris.

Mark,

I see that you have changed the position of the pitch servo from the left side as described /shown in the plans to the right side, and also have moved the speed controller. Is there any particular reason for the switch, such as balance, other than personal preference?

Also, have y'all or anyone else tried the HS85MG's and if so were there any gear problems? If these are suitable, one good thing about them is that they come with the HiTec plastic "clip" mounts that allow them to be quickly and easily mounted flat on their side.

Anybody know how long of a drive it is from Atlanta to Morris, IL???

Thanks,
Rai Trippe

I changed the servo locations strickly for personal preference. I wish HiTec made a servo mount bracket for the 225's. Sure would make things easy. I'm always thinking about stuff like that. Someday the idea will just come to me and I'll be making servo mounts too!

Mark,
I did get a chance to fly my PT Profile with the sub wing and it was much easier for me to stay oriented with it even into the sun. I did cut more than a inch off the trailing edge as I thought it may be to much drag. Now running a 8-4 prop on an OS 15FP.

I flew this "new" model for the first time yesterday. Flies the same as my first one. The new servo locations have no effect on how it flies...

Good to hear that. Last night I spent over an hour pondering where to put the pitch servo. After hearing your comments and looking at the layout pics. in your post, I think that it makes better sense to put both the pitch and roll servos on the right side.....simply for the available space. The left side was probably going to get "crowded" with the rudder servo and electronics on the left. (We'll call this a revision or improvement on what is shown in the Profile instructions!) Thanks for producing a quality kit and excellent customer service!

More info on mounting stuff for those interested. The speed contoller is mounted with self stick velcro that I purchased at Hancocks Fabric and the reciever is mounted with R/C helicopter gyro mounting self stick foam strips. Also a portion of the "wire bundle" by the reciever is secured with velcro.
