Hal debolt's gyros
Hi,
I just want to agree with Joel, if you fly gyro's in your club, you probably are the odd-ball
At one time we had three in our club. Hal deBolt was one and he passed away a few years back.
Hal's stuff was auctioned off after he died and I purchased his last gyro. It was his last design and has never flown. The pictured was taken with someone holding the gyro in the air. I have the red one and the white one was given to the AMA museum. Not sure if it has ever been displayed.
I'm thinking of converting Hal's gyro to electric, as that's all I fly now, and see if it will fly. If I'm successful, I'll bring it to the next gyro meet.
Phil

RE: Hal debolt's gyros
Hi,
Here are a few more pictures of Hal deBolt's last creation that most never saw. The gyro with a wing was going to be a trainer for potential gyro pilots. The aircraft was first flown with just the wing and then the rotor was added and finally the wing was removed. Hal had many flights but most ended in crashes, not due to the design, but his ability to fly as he was pushing 90 years old.
The other two pictures have his teetering head. He was successful with that design on other gyros. He put the heads on these gyros for pictures only.

Hi,
While looking through the pictures, I have to post a couple more that that have never been shown. Here is Bill and myself with the big sale of Wallis. I guess you probably recognize the others, Bill Friedlander, Bob Gardner, Jim Mahoney, and myself. This was taken at one of the first meets in Springhill.
