BEGI Prototype #2 Flies
1 Attachment(s)
Here's BEGI-2. 14.9 ounces RTF.
Himaxx 2812-850, APC 10x4.7 SF, Phoenix 10, TP 1320 3S1P ProLites. 16" aerobalsa 1.5" blades, 3" solder in tip LE, a little positive twist in the blades. Ground handling now acceptable, the key is very rigid main gear. Will make a change from the photo, the current second strut was just a quick hack to prove the idea. Flight is execellent like the other BEGI. Adjusted a few angles including the engine thrust line. At half throttle you can pretty much fly with aileron and elevator. Improved the rotor clearance as well. I think the couple rudder strikes I had on the other one are long gone. This one is worth building. I copied the parts as I went along so plans should not be hard. If you want to build it's mostly G3PO parts. The only odd sized wood parts are two pieces of 10mm x 5mm spruce. I cut down 1/2 by 1/4 on the table saw. I purposely designed the main chassis to be laser cut, perhaps the kit of this one will be a little easier to build in terms of chassis. I will post when I have the drawings available. mickey |

It looks really nice [8D]
I can't wait to order a kit :) Have you got a video of it flying ??? What is the distance between the trustline and the CoG ? MOB* |
RE: BEGI Prototype #2 Flies
No video yet. My videographer is still at school.
CG is one inch below the thrustline, but this is just happenstance, not design. I have read the theories about this criteria but don't completely agree with them. In a steady state non-accelerating condition the mass of the aircraft is not generating any forces in the longitudonal direction. (f=ma, if a = 0, f = 0) Further, the explanations I have seen ignore the drag vector which is significant. I agree that when accelerating and decelerating the cg/thrustline generate a couple, but the drag must be incorporated into the analysis as well. regards mickey |

Rough drawings of BEGI.
Some details like landing gear are not complete. Tail boom is 15". When main chassis parts get laser cut I'll have kits. RCU won't let me upload PDF's so go view them here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...35&postcount=6 |

Mickey,
Keep up the good work Mickey.. There was people here hoping you were coming here this weekend. Good weather with a nice wind to help us get off the ground. See you guys in November. Jim |
RE: BEGI Prototype #2 Flies
I wanted to come but just couldn't work out the schedule.
Fall is tough with football season and marching band.. Fly-in looks like its already a success. Congratulations. I've got a G3PO kit for you when you ready. Looking forward to November. mickey |
