Default Charging large NiMH packs with 50mah charger

Hey Gang,
I have three packs in my plane, two 2400 NiMH mah packs and one 2150 NiMH maH in my 1/3 scale. I have been waiting for almost a month for a charger and dying to fly this plane. According to my calculations I can use the Futaba charger from my radio at 50mah and it should take 48 hrs per pack.

Can I do this? Or should I just be smart and wait for the charger?

Dying to fly,
RickP

Default charging

Rick:

Do NOT try to charge a 2400 mah pack using a 50 mah charger. The battery may seem to be charged, but it WON'T be.

A crash will be inevitable.

Wait for the correct charger.

MPI has several low cost chargers that will hold you over. I have the 29.95 multi charger and it works great

By my calculations it would take 60 hours for the 2150 pack and 67 hours for the 2400. what you would basically be doing is trickle charging the pack. personally i wouldnt do it. what you could do if you have a multimeter capable of measuring current up to 200 ma or higher is find a wall wart around the house that has a linear DC output, meaning if its rated for 12 volts at 100 ma, when you hook it up to a 4.8 volt pack it would put out somewhere around 4.8 volts at 300 ma, when the pack reaches its final voltage, somewhere around 6 volts the charge rate would be lower, say 220 ma

Thanks guys,
Well I see that I now have two chargers on the way. One backordered one I cancelled (ACE charger), and the Sirrius one wich is better anyway. I'll have to return the ACE charger when I get it, still not sure I will have it in time for this weekend or not.
I'll take Pat's advice and just wait for the right charger.
