which battery do you guys think i should get 11.1v 3s 5000mah lipo battery or the 7.4v 3s 5000mah lipo battery , i would much rather get a battery that corisponds to what the charger [ Thunder AC6 Smart LiPo Balance Charger/Discharger w/ AC Adapter for 1-6 Lipo/ 1-15 Nimh + USB to PC Software ] can charge.

Whyich voltage do you need; what is the input voltage of The motor you're using? 7.4v or 11.1v?

I recommend you get out your owner's manual and look at pages 8, 9 and 10 as they will give as good an explanation as I can of which lipo will do what for you.

The 3s is "better" and the 2s "lasts longer" on identical set-ups (including throttle position).

On identical set-ups a higher voltage batery will give more speed.

what charger do you recommend i should get to charge a 3s 5000mah lipo battery . and try to keep it under 70$ and make sure its not just a thing that you can plug onto some big battery , kinda like a chager that plugs into the wall and then has the little box looking thingy that you set the amps and every thing on.

lithiumx152- One battery is not "better" than the other. You need to get the battery that your car is designed to use. If it's designed for a 3 cell battery and you get a 2, it'll be slow. If it's designed for a 2 cell battery and you get a 3, you'll burn up the motor and possibly the speed controller also.

To give a very simplified explanation, the voltage determines the speed of an electric motor. Your car is made to run at a certain speed, and the motor is made to run at that speed with a certain battery voltage. If you get it wrong, the motor will either underperform (voltage too low) or overheat and fail (voltage too high). The only good advice in this entire thread (aside from what I'm giving you now) is from jbdismukes to look in your owner's manual for the right battery. You cannot just guess and substitute with hobby grade electric components. Get the battery (cell count and mah) that your car is designed for and you'll have a great time with it.

The nice thing about RC components is that they are very universal. Components can be mixed and matched at will (even going way out of factory spec if desired). The vehicle can run 2s or 3s and a wide variety of capacities or sizes.

Set the charger to 5 amps is fine for the fastest charge and the charger will automatically hold max power.

the ac6 charger only chargers up to 50 watts and my battery holds 55.5 watts [ 11.1v    x   5 which is 55.5 watts , so would the ac6 charger be able to charge a 11.1v 3s lipo 5000mah battery all the way to full capicity with NO PROBLEM

This is very true if you like fire. Go ahead and over amp your system and see how long it lasts. A better route would be to check the factory recommended battery and stick with it. Going much over the recommended mah means having an overweight vehicle that won't handle well, even if the bigger battery will fit in the compartment.

lithiumx152- You're a little confused on the electrical terms used for RC stuff. Battery capacity is measured in miliamp hours, not watts. The AC6 charger will charge a 3 cell 5000 with no problem, but it'll take a bit longer than it would if you had a charger that could put out more watts. Charging at slower than the maximum rate is actually better for your batteries so don't worry about it. It just makes the process take more time. Most lipos now can charge at 2c, which means double their capacity in amps. Amps times volts = watts, so to charge a 3 cell 5000 battery at max speed would be 10 amps at a max of 12.6 volts, which means a charger capable of handling at least 126 watts. At that rate, you could be fully charged in about 30 minutes, where with the AC6 it'll take a little over an hour.

I also read the manual for your motor (a skill you're going to need if you stay in the RC hobby more than a day or two) and it has a chart specifying which battery you need for the vehicle you're installing the motor in and the gearing it has. Start there, then go battery shopping to get the voltage and capacity that you need.

thank you very much , i hate the electrical terms of all this mumbo jumbo thingy stuff , so could you plz tell me what type of charg thingy i should charge a 11.1v 3s 5000mah lipo battery at . like what type of thingy do i set to get it charging. and what charge rate would you recommend for the SpeedPk Silver 11.1V 5000mAh 3S 20C Lipo Case:Tra

I would get a 2s Lipo with the velineon. On my friend's system the motor heats up fast. So, you wont be getting longer run times because your motor will get too hot. The Thunder Ac 6 is a great charger. Just get a 7.4v 2s lipo with 5000mah. Just as good run times.

Look at the post above to find out if you have chosen the right battery or not. Then read the manual for your charger to learn how to use it. The AC6 will work fine, just a little slower than a bigger charger. I am not trying to be rude to you, but there is a fair amount of technical knowledge you must have in this hobby to be safe. If you're not even willing to read a manual, you're going to wind up setting you parents' house on fire (I'm not kidding).

I run the 2S Hard packs in mine......they last long and run fast...

the 3S packs are stupid powerfull and you will break more stuff.....

plus it is more important to keep the engine cool via correct gearing and use (Not using too much brakes, etc)........which is hard enough to do with 2S

Racing at my local tracks require 2S as well, 3S is not allowed.....
