RE: ice charger vs
The Ice charger is not safe to charge newer battery packs. I have one and will not suggest it for the new battery packs because it does not have a balancer plug adapter. While I still use it to charge my NiMH and Nicad battery packs it was never really designed to charge the newer LiPO battery packs.
I would look at newer battery chargers and I have a Dynamite Passport Ultra that I would suggest you do not purchase. After about 6 months of use I cannot change the battery type and it only allows me to change the charge rate on the current settings for my LiPo 5000 40c battery packs.
I am also starting to look for a new charger. You will need a balance charger to safely charge LiPo Battery packs. At the moment I am looking into purchaseing a Duratrax Onyx 245 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXAZZS&P=ML
Or a Triton http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXVRS6&P=ML
I would also suggest a charge bag http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...BAG+&search=Go
Just my opinion on this

RE: ice charger vs
Look into getting a balancer for your ice charger.
The onyx 245 only goes upto 3s, Not a good buy if you have 4s.
The triton goes upto 6s but under AC power charging the 4s will max out at 2.9A This will take about 2hours to charge each 4s 5000mah lipo.
The triton with DC supply will charge at 3.5A giving about 1hour 20min.
Having these options I'd go with a balancer for the ICE charger.

RE: ice charger vs
i haven't used an external balancer but these two seem popular.

There might be other ones available, but most, if not all lipo chargers now come with an integrated balancer.

RE: ice charger vs
the high power leads allow to charge upto 6A i think normal leads is upto 3A maybe less, I'm not too sure.
You just nead the correct cell count lead for the battery.
There will be people who has used the balance before who can see you right. Guver will have lots more knowledge of this than me, or the old time flyers would of used this before integrated balancers was common.
