Default Batteries any good yet?

I know a guy who bought a JR radio system about 4 years ago. He said he was not going to charge the batteries untill he finished a plane for it. He has never charged the batteries at all in over 4 years. Are they any good yet? Thanks Capt,n

Default RE: Batteries any good yet?

If they have been in a cool place all this time, they should be good.

Best thing to do is to cycle the battery several times. The cost of a new RX battery is nominal. The TX battery is relatively cheap as well if you look for one from sources other than the OEM parts depot. If it took me four years to build a model I would not risk the investment on stale batteries...[]

The actual life of NiCd's is purported to be five years or so under normal use. The cells left unattended for four years more likely than not has done some damage. Cells see a discharge function (how much is cell chemistry dependent) on the shelf, this may have dipped below the static voltage the NiCds are to be stored at.
