Only thing that comes to mind is that you may not have a fully charged battery. One way to find out is to get a battery checker, not a volt meter but a 12 volt checker. Although your volt meter may show you to have 12 volts it may not be ture full charge. You can purchase the checker at your local Acadamy store for under $20

just a note, if you check your 12V right after 14+ hour charge, you might see a number like 13.8-.9 volts. After you let it sit for an hour it will be around 13.2V or so. This is normal, and where you want the #s to be.

It really needs to checked under load. Even a virtually dead pack could read 12+ volts without loading it down some. A 14.4 volt car pack will spin that sucker really well.

Before starting, make sure you turn the prop backwards up to the point where it makes compression. This will enable the starter to get some speed and momentum before it hits compression in the correct direction.

You may wanna try two 6 cell RC car packs connected serially (not in parallel). A 12v 4.5-7Ah pb sealed battery should be fine for the starter (through a 90 sized engine) if it's charged, but 14.4v 1300mAh of car packs will spin it faster and with more torque (but last shorter, but that shouldn't be an issue since all you need to do it hold the starter on for a second or two and the engine is started). I've got 2 older car packs just for this purpose.

BTW, those pb batteries are weird. I just had one fail on my car. Even though one cell was completely dead, it still read 13.6v on a multimeter... Obviously if a cell is dead it won't start the car, had to replace it.

Default Wires!

Use heavy wires to connect your starter to your battery. My Tower Hobbies starter draws about 30 A. Make sure your connections are good and you are using heavy wires - like number 12 or lower.

Default Is it new?

Trottle, how new is the starter. Till it gets some use and the brushes get seated properly it will not put out full power.

I agree whole heartedly with F2. Two, six cell packs, (14.4V min.), in series, will start a 1.08 two-stroke and a Saito 1.8 four-stroke quite a few times.
I tried a 7AH sealed batt and was not satisfied. Even a ten cell 1.6 AH cordless drill pack, (12V min.), was not enough for the larger displacement engines. The 12V pack did however work fine for up to .60 size engines.

All the above recommendations are good. One thing that you need to make sure of is that the battery can handle the load. It could be fully charged and still not be able to supply the needed current at 12+ volts to be able to turn the load.

Try a car battery, if that works then you know you need more battery

More power is the answer. A Nicad pack sounds cool, never really considered them, they would be a lot lighter also. I have had the same problem, and whip out the jumper cables and the problem goes away..MORE POWER!!!
