Minimum Battery Voltage?

I am relatively new to R/C, but I am very familiar with radios, communications equip, etc thru work. My question is concerning both receiver batteries and Tx batteries.
Basically, at what point do I re-charge the batteries in the field?(I have a field charger...not yet used). With a 4.8VDC Rx battery, is the minimum safe operating voltage = nominal-10% (4.8V-0.48V = 4.32V)? What is that minimum point whereby it is "unsafe" (or maybe "unwise" would be a better term) to fly the airplane?
Same with the Tx battery...what is the minimum voltage?

When your battery pack drops below 4.8 volts, the voltage starts to drop dramatically over a short period of time. You can fly below 4.8 volts, but it can be very risky. Since you are going to recharge at some point, I suggest you do it when it's reading 4.8 volts or more. It's better to operate on the top of your battery charge.
When you travel, you probably refuel long before the gas guage is just barely above empty. 4.8 volts can indicate barely above empty, depending on the current draw of your airborne system.
