Hi all,
I am looking into purchasing another (new) glow plug starter/ignitor and was wondering what you all would recommend as the best one for my use. I have an NTC3+ car (and the glow plug starter that came with that). After doing some research, I think I would like a great quality starter with a meter and removable battery holder that accepts both a sub-C or D NiCD rechargeable and/or an alkaline C or D (for instant charge). Do you all know of a good one like this (that has all of these feature)?
Also, can one use a sub-C OR and/or an alkaline C with this charger (or no)?

I have that same glo starter (different brand name and came with a battery) and like it a lot. That meter saved me twice from fiddling with an engine that had a bad plug. I KNOW I would have wasted 20 minutes until I figured it out the hard way!
NO, you can't use a standard C battery in it. Sub-Cs are just a tad smaller and just fit in this one. The ones I've seen that let you use regular alkaline batteries have been pretty bulky looking, the size might be an annoyance... although it'd be easier to catch sitting on the workbench when you're heading out to the field, I guess!
Oh, you might also consider going to Radio Shack and getting a C size battery holder (a sub C will still fit in it) and wiring it up to use with a good peak charger. Waiting all night to charge can be a drag. This way the nicad can be charged at a high rate in the 20 minutes while you're packing up to go to the field.

Thanx! Though, is there a glow plug ignitor/starter out there (with a meter AND has a removable/replaceable sub-C battery that is also a twist lock (instead of a spring)? Please let me know...
