Default I need some basic help on charging

I have nitro cars and not electric - so I don't know much about batteries.

I have 2 5 hump cells that are 6v (NIMH) and then I have 2 4 cell holders that I am using 4 NiMH AA's in. Finally I have a receiver that uses 8 AA's, and has a charger jack on it.

I have a charger that is 10.8V and 4.8v at about 55ma.

1) Can I use the 4.8 side to plug straight into my 4cell holder rather than take out each cell and charge them in a charger? I'm assuming yes on this

2) Can I charge the 5hump 6v cells with the 4.8 side or will they never reach 6volts then?

3) Can I charge the receiver (9.6v with all 8 batteries) with the 10.8v side or will this cause problems?

Like I said I don't know much about charging etc and don't want to blow up some cells or equipment by doing something stupid. Is there a page that gives general advice about charging ... what you can and can't do.... what numbers you have to keep an eye on and how close you have to be?

Thank you
