4.8v - 6v receiver pack
Guys in our club discussing, OK fighting<G> over this. 4.8 vs 6v rec. pack. Some of us said the 6 volt will use more amps than the 4.8v pack therefore not last as long. Of course others said the 6v will last longer. Identical system, draw etc.
I think it uses more amps therefore higher draw resulting in a little shorter life - volts.
Can someone please explain it to us and maybe come up with a formula (Ohms law)? Thanks, Dave

(I) current = (E) volts / (R) resistance. Resistance stays the same, voltage goes up so current also goes up. 6 volt battery pack will last less than 80% as long as a 4.8 volt pack of equal mah rating, but will yield about 20% more servo power and speed.

That would be fine if the load were constant, however its not.
In reality the same capacity pack will last about 93 to 95 percent as long.
Before anyone throws Ohms Law at me this was verified in a controlled environment using a meter that shows total amps passing a given point, in this case between the battery and reciever, using the SERVO TEST function in a Futaba 9c to excecise a flight pack.

That is pretty much the same results that R/C Report found in simple tests that approximated normal flying. I switched all my planes to 5 cell this season, and from my experience so far, any theoretical loss in flight times are not worth loosing sleep over, besides with the trend to higher capacity pack, it's a non issue, at least for my 2 cents.
