Default NiMh for electric flight

I know my way around charging and maintaining NiMh Tx and Rx packs, no problems there. My conclusion over the last 3 or 4 years, is that a slow charge of 1/10C results in the cells lasting longer than 1C charges.

I gave a GP2200 10 cell pack powering a sailplane. No problems with performance and I try to charge the packs at 1/10C where ever possible but I have field charged at 1-2C several times to extend my flying, usually about 50-75% capacity to 'fill them up' and always never letting get past warm.

An experienced (?) friend tells me to forget what I've learnt about cells so far, because NiMh cells that a drained fast must be charged fast, by that he means 1, 2-4C. I'm reluctant to do this as I believe it will shorten the pack life regardless of discharge rates being high.

I also plan to continue form charging from time to time as I do with the Tx and Rx packs to check their health etc.

Comments please!

Default RE: NiMh for electric flight

Old song and dance.
Racing if you hate the pack and want the most then do as he says.
Long life slow charge 500 cycles and years of good service. BTW NiMH only recharge then every 20 or so reform from discharged state
