Default which leads go where

I just got my first electric heli- and as an upgrade I bought two LiPoly batteries. 11.1v, 10c, 1200mah. There are 2 larger wires (red & black) coming from the battery pack--I assume these go to the heli battery connector to power it in-flight? There is also another connector coming from the battery pack with smaller wires- black, red, white, yellow- 4 pins. Do I charge the battery through the 2 large wires? What is the small connector for? Can I ignore the small connector?

reeeeeally dig the heli! FUN!

The small wires are for balancing/charging. Go to the battery pack manufactures web site they should have info on balancing it.

Thanks for the reply!

I bought the batteries from tenergy.com and they have no info on balancing them.

How important is a balancer with 3 cell LiPoly batteries? Can I just solder the big red & black battery leads to a 2 wire connector attached to the heli motor, and solder the red and black (smaller wires) to a connector attached to my non-balancing charger?

You can charge through the main leads (the ones you connect to your speed control). They go to the same place as the outside leads on the smaller (balancing) connector.

If you don't have a balancing charger (i.e., one made to charge through the balance connector), pick up an astro blinky (or similar) blanacer and use it to balance your pack after charging. I don't bother to balance after every charge...maybe once every 5 or 6 charges seems fine.
