why are ni-mh batts better than nicads? they self discharge faster and the discharge rate is sudden at the end of the pack voltage.

The single big advantage NiMh has over NiCad is that you get much more power stored in the same physical size or weight. For most other statistics, NiCad is best, roughly twice the lifetime in number of cycles, more immune to overcharge, half the self discharge rate. The big dissadvantage of NiCads is that you must dispose of them properly as they can contaminate the environment.
