PowerfLite Power Systems
by Jim Oddino RCM Jan 2002
NiCds have been the standard batteries used in radio control systems for over forty years, but
recently we've seen a few new technologies trying to make inroads. NiMH cells behave very
similar to NiCds and store more energy in less volume with less weight and, therefore, are
becoming a viable alternate. Lithium Metal, under the name Duralite, became the choice of those
attempting to lower weight at any cost. Until now, Lithium-Ion has not been taken seriously, but
PowerfLite, made in the USA by Skyborn Electronics Products, took a system approach that
makes Lithium-Ion another viable solution. One thing I like about Li-Ion is the fact it is the
standard in many consumer electronic products, so we can expect the technology to get better and
better over the years just like NiCd and NiMH battery packs have.
