Default Lead Acid Replacement???

Hello. I have an electric skateboard that takes 4 of these 12 volt 5 amp Lead Acid batteries. I am looking for some batteries that are just as good or better. They have to be the same size or smaller. Are there any LiPo or Lithium batteries that could work? Thanks in advance.

You could use 9 2200mah 3cell lipos in parallel. The best price is for Zippy brand about $19 each plus shipping. You would also have to buy a charger; minimum is about $50. What are you trying to accomplish? The batteries you have are probably the best from a cost standpoint.

Are there any other batteries that can replace my Lead Acids that would make the skateboard faster?

Could I build my own LiPo battery pack? Would it be as efficient, put out more power, make me go faster...???

There are two ways to increase your speed. Increased voltage will increase speed but may damage your motor. Changing the gear ratio of your drive system - smaller drive gear or larger driven gear. What is the motor rated at, amps, volts?

I can't see any writing on the motor. I don't want to take it out, because it is a ton of unnecessary work.

You could try 14.8 volts. Make or buy four 5000 mah 4s packs and put them in parallel. This will give you the same capacity you currently have with a voltage increase of 2.8 volts. Major expense for not much extra go.

Would the beast weigh less with the LiPos in it instead of the Lead Acids?

Yes, your wallet as well. Probably about half the weight.

I have read that people have used A123 (DeWalt 36 volt battery packs) cells to make up batteries for electric bikes and have been quite successful. Higher cost, but much more power delivery and longer life.
