"Best" depends on your needs. The Alpha is great, but does not charge at very high rates which makes it less attractive for larger packs and field charging.
What are you going to use it for?
Mike
Alpha 4
Cirrus Cycle Pro

Best Charger
The best charger I have found is made by Orbit in Germany. It can charge all types of cells from NiCads to Lithium. It also has a computer interface to monitor and plot the charge and discharge cycle. It is not cheap, but I also don't need five different chargers. Jim Odino gave it a great review some time ago in RCM.
I purchased mine from goldenwestmodels.net

I second the Orbit V6. The new 6.2 version can charge everything, including the lithiums. I have two and will be buying another to use in my jets.
I also have an Alpha 4 that I use on my giant scale aerobats, as it charges 4 packs at once, but it is only useful for overnight charging.

I would
I would recommend Triton from Futaba (Great Planes) . It does NiCD , NiMH , Pb and LiPO/LiOn . Runs on a 12V supply and charges from 1-24 cells . and Cheapest of all about 129.00

I give another vote to the Orbit.
And remember, it's upgradable. You will always be able to take advantage of the newest and greatest charging technology, whatever it may be.
And the graphic charge/discharge curve is sort of neat to track on a PC.

Orbit V6.20 is the bOmB, baby!
I bought my Orbit charger from www.edogfight.com and got it pretty quick here in Hawaii. It is easy to program and covers all my charging needs for my high capacity batteries. I like the compactness of the unit and with my Astro Flight power supply, it takes up a small portion of space on my work bench.
I would have liked getting the high end Schulze charger, but I couldn't justify spending about $800 for it. I'm just a sport flyer who's just getting back into electrics
Aloha to all in the R/C Universe!
