Default Power Supply advice needed

Have been using a pair of AccuCycle Elites with the factory providedpower supplies and have now bought a charger that requires a power supply to run it.
Is it possible to use one Power Supply to run three chargers?
I only charge Nimh's and Nicd's. TX and RX packs only 5 cell for the RX and of course 8 for the TX
Never fast charge,only 1-1.5C

The newest charger is a Mega Power 960 RS which I've read requires a 20A supply

Would a 30 amp supply be enough to run the three?

anyone using one of these?

You can figure that out yourself.  Just multiply the current each battery is being charged at by the voltage of the batteries being charged, add them all together and add about 20% of this total  for the inefficiency to get how many watts the power supply needs to provide.  If the wattage rating of the power supply is that high or greater, you can charge them all at the rate you used to compute the total drain.

Quick and dirty way to get close is to just add up the amps you will be using when you charge and add 20%.  In other words, if you are charging four 8cell/ 2000mah tx packs at a time at 1C you would need a minimum of 16amps+ 20% more for inneffeciency/heat loss in the chargers . So you would want a power supply capable of 20 amps.

Here's a for instance. I am charging two 5S 5300 mAh packs right now using a Hyperion DUO. 5.3 amp charge rate (1C).

The charger is pulling 18 amps at 13.8 volts from the power supply.

So the packs are charging at a combined draw of 10.6 amps. The charger is demanding 18 amps from the power supply. This is 1.7 times the combined charge rate (10.6 amps).

The power supply is delivering 18 ampsx13.8 volts = 248.4 watts to the charger.

The packs are charging at about 19.5 volts right now with 5.35 amps current. That's about 208 watts.  The difference of 40 watts  is blowing out the back of the charger in heat. This makes the charger about 84% efficient (208/248).

The AccuCycle Elites  factory provided power supplies are 2.5 amps.  A 30 amp supply would be plenty.

When buying a charger I look for AD/DC. I would never buy a charger that isn't AC/DC. FACT: I just bought another TEKIN 112c charger with the 350 discharger. Great charger. I allready have 2 but wanted the 350 discharger to manage my batteries. I got the whole charger discharger for $55!!!!! what a deal. The charger is AWSOME as is the discharger.

Sorry, here's a correction to my prior post, I was in a hurry and had to get back to work, didn't see my mistake till now.  Four 8cell 2000mah packs would only need 10 amps. With 20amps you should be able to charge 8 packs of that size.

Hello Guys,

I would like to know about these two rx battery model from Futaba.

1. Futaba NR4RB Receiver NiCd 4.8V 1000mAh J > http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXH337&P=7
2. Futaba NR4F 4.8V 1500mAh Receiver NiCd Flat > http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXWX97&P=7

Both are from Futaba and made in china, my question is why 1000mAh battery more expensive than 1500mAh battery?

Regards,
Rajib

Check the voltage on the accu-cycle elite power supply. Both mine put out 18vdc. Unloaded its 13.5v, when you plug in the accu-cycle elite charger it jumps up to 18v. (???) I used the elite power supply to to power a Turnigy 420 lipo charger and it blew it up in less than 10 minutes. That was before I new the elite power supply put out 18v. Its not much use for anything other than the accu-cycle elite.
