Basic Battery Question
Hello,
I am relatively inexperienced at batteries and wanted to ask a question: I am using a standard four cell 4.8v 600maH receiver pack in a plane. I charge overnight (12 hours) using the standard Futaba wall charger rated at 50 mah. My full charge voltage is around 5.3 volts and after four 14 minute flights and a total ontime of a little over one hour, the receiver voltage never reads less than 5.03 volts. Does this sound right? I am surprised by two things: 1) that the charged voltage is so high; and 2) that the voltage is still over 5 volts after an hour of use. I guess I expected both to be closer to 4.8 volts. Thoughts? Thanks, Travis |
RE: Basic Battery Question
It's fine. Look at the discharge curves at the following link. The majority of battery life is above the 1.1 volt per cell.

RE: Basic Battery Question
sounds like your pack is in great shape, almost all nicd/nimh cells will charge to over thier rated voltage.

RE: Basic Battery Question
That's reassuring. I didn't think there was a problem, but was surprised by how much over 4.8v they charged.
