Default My first 27% gasser

Hey guys I am setting up my first gasser and i have a few questions...

My radio Equpment is a Futaba 7c with the Futaba 617fs...

OK I do not want to have to use a y harness or my alerions or my elevator... so i need some help also i want to run dual batts just for saftey.... also i will have a chock servo and a opto kill switch.... now my problem is on my reciever it only has 7 ports so that is 6 channels and then channel 7 is shared for the batter so how do i hook this thing up with out having to use y harnesses..... right now i have two recivers in the plane but its only because i can not figure out how to do it on one

there is
a servo on each wing so channel 1 and 6
a servo on each elevator so channel 2 and 5
1 rudder servo channel 4
1 throttle servo channel 3
channel 7 for choke servo so now i have ran out of space and i still need a spot for my batts and my opto kill switch
any ideas will help thanks all

The issue with the battery is easy, simply use a Y-harness on any other channel in the receiver and plug your second battery in one side of the Y-Harness and your servo on that channel into the other side of Y-harness.

The problem with the kill switch is a little harder, simply because you are out of channels. You only have 7 channels and they are all in use now. You can't make a 7 channel receiver do 8 functions. My recommendations would be to simply use a Y-harness for your ailerons and use the channel that is freed up for your kill switch. If you want the kill switch on this radio you are going to have to give up something from your list

Hi,

Further to Ken's reply it is possible, but fiddly, to set up the throttle kill switch on the TX to not only close the throttle but to also activate an optical kill switch, I've done this with both a Multiplex and JR Tx and see no reason why it wouldn't work with Futaba. Personally I would go with Davo's suggestion of a power box.

Cheers,

Colin

Just a question of my own, I have never had to do it but a bigger RX?? Something big enough to use two extra ports for the batteries?? I'm not a fan of Ys but I do have some of the JR match boxes, they work very well.

Use a Futaba SR-10 Dual Servo Reverser to free up either one of the elevator or aileron channels:

My suggestion would be to forget the choke servo. You never use that feature in flight and it's much easier to just use fingers in the starting process on the ground. Then hook the optical kill into channel 5 and slave it to the radio's throttle-kill switch.

What I have done for split elevators and two-servo rudder control is to use a Smart-Fly Equalizer II. It is easier (IMHO) than programming the radio and frees up a channel. You could also use a Futaba SR-10 mixer/reverser, but the Equalizer costs the same and is much more flexible

Put a manual choke on it. Use the channel for the kill switch. You can save the weight of the choke servo. Unless you want to use flaps, RcKen also has a good suggestion to use a Y harness on the ailerons. A good mechanical center on the servos will be about all you need. Also on a 27% you really don't need two batteries. Go ahead if it gives you that warm fuzzy feeling, but there aren't enough servos put much load on the system. One good 2400 will do. Use the A123/LiFe batteries, and you can charge every 2-3 flights if you want. Takes 15min.

Iagree, don't do a choke servo. It is just one more thing to set up and fiddle with. Just do some sort of manual choke wire.

Iwould also consider using a Y on the ailerons. Yes, they can fail but so can the crimp on a connector or a servo or whatever. If you are concerned about the quality of a pre-made Y, you can make your own. I do it all the time.

Put a big enough engine in a small enough cowl and you don't even need a wire. ;-)

Only reason I wouldn't go with a "Y" on the ailerons is that you then cannot work with aileron differential or flaperons - though the latter is seldom something I use the former certtainly is.
