My brother wants a Kadet Mark II kit for christmas and I heard that Sig was behind in marketing kits because of a shortage in balsa wood. This is not true with the Mark II is it? How soon do I need to order one to get it in time for christmas? And what motor combination is best for this kit at a reasonable cost but easy to break in? Say around $60 for a motor.

You need to go to the website. They show the Mk11 kit currently avalible If he wants one in this economy I would not dally around and get it now!

Its an excellent airplane but stuffing a modern 46 in it as most do it loose's it character and the purpose to which it was designed.

The very best engine you could get for it is the new OS AX's and specificly either the .25 or the .35 These both have the new carburator which does so much to enhance the enjoyment of an airplane like that. There are lessor (cheaper) altenatives but I'll leave that to others.

Actually, the specs from Sig say .25-.40. A 46 is going to be WAY too much for this plane. This plane was designed in a day and age when a .40 what a powerful engine. But what was a "powerful" 40 in those days is weak in comparison to what is out there now. This plane would fly well with a 35 AX or even a 40 LA.

Thank you Ken, I stand corrected. I'll get him a nice .35 for it. Hope they have the Mark II in stock by the time I have the money. Maybe I can get it ordered through my local hobbyshop and have him hold it for me. Support my LHS.

I just noticed your price limit on the engine at $60. You're going to have a hard time staying in that as the 35 AX goes for $149 right now.

You can still find OS .35FP's, .40 FP's, and .40 LA's new in the box on ebay. These are all perfect for the Kadet Mk II. I picked up my last .35 FP and .40 LA engines for $29.00 and $35.00, both new in the box and never mounted. The .35 FP is for a Sig Kadet Mk I (predecessor to the Mk II).

Before you jump on an engine, do some research on them to see what will be best for your specific application.

Mine flew great with an Enya 35

I'm building a 30 year old Mk2 kit right now. Its going to come in somewhere around 4lb soaking wet ready to fly since I made some strategic wood substitutions rather than use the warped iron wood that came in the kit.

The Mk 2 is not a large trainer. It would fly fine with a modern .25 or older .29/.35. I may wind up with an FP .35 in mine, since they run fine on no-nitro FAI fuel and will produce more than enough power to fly the plane with no nitro.

my old kadet mkII weighs 6 pounds, because i fiberglassed the fuselage, and I'm running a super tigre .40, and its blistering fast, but drops like a rock when the throttle is pulled back. I'd go with the .35 ax
