red 4*60 orientation issues

Crash-N-Burn you're not going to get any complaints from me. Before I was flying I'd see a plane and think what a god awful color scheme. Now I think how nice it would be in the air!
I lose orientation between top and bottom. I think it is mostly getting used to low wing aircraft after being used to a high wing planes.
jucava - Checker board patterns unless really large (2") tend to go single color i.e. black and white = grey. It's okay if the top wing is a light color.

I just spent a week with a guy back east flying. He proved to me that one really doesn't have to see the plane, just trust your control inputs and plan your flight.
Well, it sure worked for that week, but a month or two off and I'm madly looking for the planes position! (No plan, LOL). I'm not the most disciplined guy in the universe....just want to have fun sometimes.
I think if we all were able to spend 3-4 days a week flying for 4 hours, it would all seem easier, yes?
Until that day that I have the time, I'll just make them bright!

Crash&Burn, although I ribbed you in good fun about the plane, I really think it a great combination, one to be proud of !! Good looking canopy, -Did you paint it ? Looks like you changed to smaller wheels, why ?
Just wondering is anyone has ever tried using something like chrome tape (is there such a thing), or the shiny aluminum duct tape for an edge stripe? Would it work ?

Hi, E-U! Thanks for the thumbs-up. No, the mains are stock, 2-3/4"(?) on the supplied landing gear that I anodized blue and I changed the tail wheel to this:

An Ohio model.
Yes, the canopy is painted using the Testors transparent paint. I did this after I tried the RIT dye trick for a whole Saturday and it didn't take.
3M makes a great aluminized tape for use in duct work but it creases so easily. Even if you cut a strip and gently press it down, it looks like dog poo-poo plus it's $29/roll!
Maybe someone else has an alternative.

Is that a medium sullivan tailwheel ? My tailwheel is becomming a problem and needs to be replaced ( ie I posted this problem in the arf section). Replacing the tailwheel is a smart move, the sig wimpy wheel is a problem looking to happen, at the field of course.
I never noticed the anodized blue lander gear due to the reflection, very cool. Did you find the process to do that here on RCU ?

Actually, it's the tiny (4-8#'s, 1" - TW-101), but the small 1-1/4", TW-102 would work fine, too. If you fly off grass I'd opt for the TW-102.
If you already have one installed, you may wish to try the Sullivan tail wheel. The Ohio needs to have the rudder notched which may be difficult on an already-hinged rudder.
Re: Anodized main landing gear.....Well, an anodizing plant and a powder coating plant are two of my holdings...not really practical to do at home.

JNorton,,
Hope you don't mind, but I copied your design of covering for the bottom of my 4*60 using white stripes.
I only went with 3 stripes though, measuring 4 inches from the wing tip in, stripe, then 4 inches, stripe and so on.
I'll posts pics this evening, I'm at work now.
Oh,,,in the pic of your plane,,,,where are the servos and control rods?

cruzomatic,
Great copy it, I'm glad someone else likes it as much as me.!!!
This is a 4 Star 40. I knew it was slightly off topic, but due to the similarity of designs and the fact that this pattern helped cure me of my orientation problem, I posted it.
It has a single HS-425BB with internal torque arms to the ailerons. I used the longest servo arm and have almost 3" total travel. This plane will roll almost as fast as a Dazzler.

Hi Cruz
I had the red 4*60. put white invasion stripes (2.5" diameter) with 3" btw. ,three on each wing/underneath. I had great visability. Only problem was low pass with a attempted roll (augered into ground :cry Flew great.) Now have a yellow with blue invasion stripes (I like the yellow better). I used the stick-on monokote stuff, no problem.

MSP1957,
I'm confused. Do you mean 2.5" wide stripes with 3" in between? Whatever. I like stripes on the bottom wing, just make them wide with about equal width between them. If you use narrow stripes in the distance they will blur and become a solid blend of the two colors instead of a pattern. It's the pattern that helps you tell orientation.

John,
I understand about your plane and the servo. I was thinking it was the 60. Thanks for posting it. I did the windex trick as well last night, but still need to do the ironing this evening. Thanks again for the idea. Check back tonight, I'll post pics.
