Default What Fuel

I finally got my ALPHA 40 running tonight. However, im running it on 10% nitro RC car fuel. Is this a bad thing? Does it have to be for RC aiplanes? or is the "10%" universial?

The car fuel should be fine for your airplane engine. Does the label say how much oil it has in it? You want 18% oil. The nitromethane (10%) is fine.

I think car glow is low in oil compared to plane fuel. Maybe 10-12%. I would check the oil if I were you. 18% in your plane is good.

Traxxas car fuel seems to have more oil in it than most other brands...IIRC it's around 16%...which is marginal at best.

If you are using a different brand, you might want to either add some oil or buy some airplane fuel.

10% airplane fuel is generally cheaper than car fuel anyway.

Jeff, the fuel sold under the Hobby People label doesn't state on the can what it is but they advertised it as 18%, this is there 15% nitro fuel, I didn't look at the can of the other %s. The cans look like just Wildcat with a label change, WC is just 16% oil. I add 2% Klotz to it just to be safe. Whatever I'm doing my engines seem to like it but better safe then sorry.

The car fuel will typically have less oil in it. Just switch. Run 10% Omega airplane fuel in both.

I have run airplane fuel in cars for years with great results. If you're bashing around the yard, and not trying to set records...airplane fuel is fine.

Ithink you could use any moderate nitro fuel with about 18% oil in both car and airplane engines if you dont want to buy more than one type of fuel. I hate to see airplane engines run on less than 18%lube unless its the fancy European high performance synthetics that we cant even get.
If you are worried try some SIGSynPlus airplane fuel. It is 100% synthetic but has enough lube to work good.

Most fuels for cars have a lower oil content in them, you may want to bypass it and buy a new jug of fuel for airplanes. As most above have said, go with a fuel with at least 18% oil content. Most of the fuel manufacturers will list the percentages of thier mixes on their websites, so you can research before you buy.

I better bin my model technics goglo and omega then since they have 15% and 17% oil respectively.I've diluted the modeltechnics to 12% and no issues just a fine running engine. But different strokes I guess...The car is the more severe environment.
