Default Soloed!

After 3 seasons of trying, i have finally soloed. Though, it was really just this year that i actually started putting a great effort into getting trained.

It all started 3 years ago. I had seen model airplanes in the newspaper, and at the hobby store, and i finally managed to persuade my father into getting me a plane. We saw a Sig Kadet hanging from the ceiling, and decided to go for it. Equipped with a JR XF622 radio an an O.S. .46SF motor, we showed up at the field on training night and.... nobody. Next Friday.. same thing. So, we got out our call list and started calling around. We usually ended up with a different instructor every night. At this time, it was almost winter, so we called it a year.

Next year, same thing. then, one day, we decided to do takeoffs. My father took off fine, and then it was my turn. Full throttle, up.. up.. turn .. dive.. turn.. SMACK. Nose in the ground. We took the plane home and it sat, and collected dust. Then, one particularity boring day, I decided to fix it. We went to the hobby store, and picked up all of the necessary repair items. Repaired it, and left it to collect dust again.

Finally, this year, I bought an RC car and found this forum. Looking and hearing people talking about planes proved too much to bear. So, we decided to start out right. Firstly, we decided that we would stick with one instructor. Secondly, we decided to find someone with a JR radio, so we could use a buddy cord. This narrowed the possible instructors to one. So we called him up, and for the last month or two, we've met him at the field at least twice a week. We started all over, and a a half gallon later(tonight), we soloed.

Sure is great now, to be able to go out whenever we want.

Thanks for reading my story,

Michael,

Congrates....
it doesnt matter how long you took but what matters is that you have soloed and you are really interested in flying.(anyone can 'drive' those rc cars but not all can 'fly' a plane.)it requires lots of experience to fly a RC plane well and you will learn something everytime you fly.(not insulting those RC car dudes ok!!)
you should stick to one instructor only as he will know you better and know what you capable of doing and teach and correct you on what you dont know.

Good luck.

Great! Your determination is impressive.

That solo flight is one that will bring a rush for years and years when you think back on it.

Now, go do what I tell all new solo pilots - Go out and Practice, Practice and then do some more Practice. Be sure to work on touch-and-goes. These are fun to do with a Kadet and really pay off when you graduate to other planes.

I've been flying more years than I care to say, and I still pull out an old Kadet Senorita at least once a month for just downright fun flying.

Take care and let us know how it is going with you.
