Only see that on the rarest of occassions, at least long enough to get a photo [8D]

In my thirteen years flying at this club There has only been two days that there was enough for a while to fly floats on the runways and that was just so *****en!

I know, I know a lot of folks here have this opportunity much more often but its unique for us. The last time five or six years ago my memories are vivid of a perfect day. Wake up to four or five inchs of perfect powder and the race was on to get the floats mounted on the old Spacewalker and get to the field.

Just getting there of course was a challange because we knew the dirt access road would be washed out from several days of the previous rains. I and several others met at the wash and we ferried most of us accross with the fellows who had high four wheel drives.

The effort was well worth it and I was the first out not neccessarily up! It was just so cool making the first tracks in the powder that I spent that first tank just writing my name and stuff in the snow. Then came the sun and my first take of. That flight was wonderful with my white painted wet floats glistening in the sun. Just wonderful.

I'm down in Florida right now and I had to put on a long sleeve shirt today too - it's all the way down into the 60's today!

I get to come home to the frozen tundra this week... Not looking forward to it!

The good news is, i get to come back to Florida next month too... And again in March

HA! -8 is all?!? Friday morning I woke up to -28°!!! Now add in the windchill, and it was something like -40°... Now that's cold!

My rusty ol' trusty pickup started a little hard that morning, but she still came to life. 200,000+ miles on my 1995 Chevy K1500 4x4 truck and I think I finally just got her broke in!

Because it's the only place I've ever known!

Besides, when it's 150° in OK this Summer with 95% humidity, it'll only be in the low to mid 90's here!

The way I see it, I can always put on more clothes when it's cold out. There's only so much that can be taken off in the heat!

Yes, but when you have shut down flying for the fall, we are still flying for a couple more months. And in the spring we'll be back out flying while you still have snow on the ground!!!!!!!

I'm just the opposite. I'd much rather be hot than freezing my rump off!!!!

Mike, I was watching NASCAR yesterday and it was in the 60s with 70% humidity there in Florida, I love the heat, that's why I moved to Vegas but I can't stand humidity!!!! Or bugs!!! Yesterday was close to 70 here but the forcast was for 30 mph winds so I didn't bother getting up early. The wind didn't hit until last night at about 10!! Today was supposed to be high winds so I slept in again, it's hardly blowing enough to call it a breeze!! So much for the TV weather reports. Supposed to have another warm up this week so back into the 70s so I will spend some time flying during the week. Scooter is already out at Lake Mead field flying. If I would have gotten out of the sheets this morning I would have joined him.

Bone chilling, windy and snow here. Brenda and I are heading to the caribbean soon!! Not soon enough!! with late hours and weekends working, not much for anything. I did manage to build a foamy. my old Irakus foamy had been crashed way too many times, fuse was just beyond repair. Built a new fuse out of some foam that came with the eldest sons new jeep bumper. was able to use the same wing and tail feathers. Should fly decent. If the weather ever breaks, I will certainly find out.

Very tempting, but looking in the Lake of the Ozarks. Something on a nice big secluded bay, nice boat launch, and a way cool flying club close by. I can knock 4 months off of winter just going that far south. Not to mention the cost of living and taxes in Minnesota are getting way out of line.

It did warm up some here, it was almost 10 by noon. I decided the snow fly would have to wait, Flying in mittens just seems like a bad idea.

BTW, How fragile is Ultracote at 0 degrees anyway?

Great weather here. Foggy and cool in the morning but the sun has peaked out the last couple afternoons and made a relatively nice day.

I did mention to you what to do for fun in the fog Chuck!! Just got an email from my building partner in NY, it was already zero there and supposed to go down to -15 tonight.
There are warmer places in the country. How about a clinker. My daughter owns a small resort on Drummond Island MI. This is a girl that had to wear a snow suit at the sand dunes when it was 70 degrees. Her boyfriend says she sort of wraps herself around the wood burner there. He takes out his float plane and will fly off the lake when there is enough snow to cover the ripples in the ice. Much sterner stuff then I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, how can somebody live is those conditions, let alone fly.
Here in C Fla we fly 12 months a year, although the last month we had more windy days than flying days. Yesterday the winds were at 40 mph. Not fun.
Today it was a lot better but still chilly at 61.
Cost of living is not too bad, no state taxes and 6% sales taxes. Come fly with us at the Sunshine State

Wa-Wen Resort. She is now open all year long. They rent snowmobils and cater to cross country ski folks. Even Duck Hunters and Deer Hunters during the season. I don't know how this kid can take it though, she was cold during the summer in Calif. She loves it there though. I have just never liked the cold. You probably couldn't take the heat here?? I love it, that and the dry is why I moved here from the mountains of Calif. That and no acres to be mowed for fire breaks!!!!

I'm stuck down here in this weather all the time. But you get used to it. July and August, its just too hot to do anything between 11am and 3pm. I don't fly in that window. Having 8 months of great weather a year is reasonable. I used to move around in my younger years, and I mostly lived in the New England area. I have many relatives still up there. I have no idea how they do it.

Absolutetly awesome to look at those pics.
Thx RDThompson, but I have no desire whatsoever to be there now. It is 48 now here and I have my heat blasting to 75. I am in shorts watching the Steelers beating the Jets and charging my Nimh batteries to go flying tomorrow.
