A heads up if your as stupid as me
Well I thought Id try out my new heat gun to remove wrinkles from my

It also melted the edge of my bubble canopy!

RE: A heads up if your as stupid as me
Just finished cutting and fitting my second canopy on a scratch build. 1st new canopy came a little out of shape, SO, I tried to straghten it with a little heat. Now I'm working on the second one LOL. I found out a few things about canopies or any other vacum formed plastic. When it is vacum formed it is streched over the mold and then left to cool so it keeps that shape. Keep in mined it has been streched and forced to cool and hold it's new shape. But it really wants to get back to its original shape, which is flat. As soon as you apply heat it will try to shink back to its flat shape. Sometimes we all learn the hard way.

Actually when i built my 4*60 I used the heat gun on the canopy on purpose. I mounted the canopy backwards and trimed it to fit so it was more streamline looking. Heated the canopy to form it to the fuse. Gotta love those cool mods people post on here.

That airplane is long gone. Actually what I would do is just have O.B. come up with some story of the history of warped canopies and why they were built that way back in the day.

Hi,
Yep we all have been there.
The heat gun can be used to form plastic parts intentionally though. I have used it to make gutter pipe plastic maleable. Also plastic baseball bats. Gloves are kinda handy for this use though!

It works well with covered over cracks & skuffs too.

I've had to patch covering before and didn't have the right color on hand. Rather than spending money on the correct stuff like a logical person, I'll make a stripe, pattern, simulated panel or whatever and duplicate it on the opposite side.
