ok, so i have recently baught a mini super cub rc plane about 3 months ago.
now i am interested in nitro planes and have no idea where to start.
i really want to build my own from scratch out of balsa wood but cant find any relevant kits
can anybody point me in the right direction or tell me some good kits to get me started in making and flying nitro planes?

Great Planes, Goldberg, and Sig are all distributed throughout the U.K. I'd point you toward a Sig Kadet LT-25, Sig Kadet LT-40, or a Goldberg Eagle 2 kit as your first trainer build.

Like nearly everyone it is usually quicker, easier and cheaper to start with a trainer and an instructor. Given your location in the UK there is a very structured approach to learning to fly. I would suggest that you visit your local club and enquire when an instructor would be available. As to the model I would suggest a "Wot Not" kit as a good starting point. The club may well have a "loaner" trainer available to start you on your path.

I would say sig lt40 as its a great kit and flyer if money was not a issue but here in blighty you will pay 130 quid to build one (kit, glue then covering). An arf trainer you can get for 60 quid! Having said that I am a builder and understand the need to build so I would suggest if the lt40 cost is to much then look on ebay for a old trainer kit of any make, they come up quite often.

These distributors should be able to give you the names of some local hobby dealers.

just one more question... i have been looking previously to this post and found that ben buckle vintage do kit versions but me being a beginner and all that means that i have no idea wether ben buckle vintage is a good make?

BTW I built and flew a lt40 as my first plane and was flying it today, 14 months after its maiden, great kit, just darn expensive here.

the kit is cheap, but the engine etc will be the most expensive im guessing?
