Default Muffler spitting raw fuel??

IT looks as if my engine / muffler problems are neverending but here goes. I went to the field to fly when i started her up the instructor noticed my muffler was just sputtering raw fuel out. he told be that there had to be something wront with the line in the gas tank. So i took everything apart and i want to know in which way and how to bend it.

Thankx

well.. the clunk should be about 1/4 inch away from the bottom of the tank when held vertical .. the vent tube should touch the top of the tank when held in position it would be in on the airplane.. if that checks.. then motor is way too rich.. try leaning it out a few clicks.

"should touch the top of the tank ". the line connecting it to the muffler or the metal piece inside the tank

Please Explain and feel free to redraw my pic using mspaint

Thankx

The only problem with that answer(with no fault to you) is the instructor adjusts the needle for the 1st flight . They are concerned because i have a 10 1/2 Oz tank and im only getting 9min when i should be getting 15+ min

Any other ideas

I had the same type of problem on one of my planes last year, since it seemed to run through a tank of fuel a lot quicker than I thought it should. One of the things I was told was to make sure that the vent tube inside the tank was near the top of the tank, like GraupnerFan suggested. If it's not, then when you try to fill up your fuel tank, raw fuel will come back out through the vent line or muffler before your tank is completely full. For instance, if your vent tube inside the tank is 1/2" from the top of the tank, then your tank will only fill up to that height before the fuel that your pumping in starts coming back out through the vent line. So instead of getting 10 1/2 oz of fuel into your tank, you're probably only getting about 8 or 9. Hope this helps...Len

That's close. You don't need to bend the tube inside the tank back towards the front (I'm assuming that's the copper tube in there). On my Sullivan tanks, I bend the tubes up towards the top where's there's a small dimple showing on the top of the tank. One thing I learned on bending the copper tubes, since I don't have a bending tool - insert a piece of electrical wire almost the same diameter into the tube before bending it, that keeps it from crimping. Then after it's bent, just pull the wire out. You don't want to make the bend too sharp. I also file a little notch in the end of the tube where it almost touches the top of the tank. That way if it does get pushed up against the top, it still won't get plugged. Good Luck!!

Thankx a bunch Crash90 for editing my pic. If it is still that far down into the tank then isnt it still going to suck raw fuel through the muffler. And the tub should not touch the top of the tank?

Update: I just broke off the vent line to 4 cm trying to bend it. i tried to get her going but wouldnt fire up.

It should look like this. (Try to ignore the clunk line and "brass tube", that was for another post.

The vent line is in red.
