The elevator servo on my US .40 went out today (luckily I was able to land her in one piece!), I haven't bought a regular standard servo in this century as I've just been reusing them through various planes.
Anyways, just wondering if I should get the same servo (HS-422), or what others are running and what your favorites are for every day use in "regular" applications.

I saw a survey a while back that listed the HS-425BB as the most popular standard sport servo here at RCU. I actually buy and fly a lot of HS-311 servos on my trainers and sport planes. I saw a report on TV that said ball bearings don't actually help fight cavities or get your laundry any brighter, so I just save an extra $5 per servo.

My go to servo for the last 10 years has been the Airtronics 94102. I have more of these servos than I can count (60+) and I've never had one fail that wasn't crash related (it died after the crash) for anything up to about 90-120 size these are great little servos and do an outstanding job.

I haven't bought any new servos for a while but going through my box I noticed I had a lot of the HT 425s and 5425 digitals plus the 605s. I like digital servos but they are not a must have item for the smaller planes. I have been using the 5425s in my smaller 60 size pattern planes for better centering and the holding power through there arc but the standard analogs are just fine if you don't want to spend the extra money for digitals. No one brand is perfect but Hitec is the number one brand in use, I also have several sets of JR servos but for the most part my box if full of Hitec.

G'day
I like the Hitec HS 425 which is the bigger (ballraced) brother of the 422 you had which died. I have also had a 422 die but it was straight out of the box so it did not cause any problems.
I have used many servos of many types and I keep coming back to the 425 and the 422 for standard size servos. I also like the HS-645 when more grunt is needed and the 125 for a lot of grunt in a very small package.

I have more 3004s than any other single servo, but since a lot of mine came in previously owned airplanes I guess all that really means is that somebody else really liked them. A lot of somebody elses.

I have recently tried the Dymond 5000 servos, double bb, metal gears and lots of torque in a standard case. A good deal @ $15.00 each... I have them in a 96 in. Monocoupe w/G 38 power and they work well . I have the others mentioned here and most work well also.

I have been using a SG5010 servos from Hobbypartz. They have been working very well for over a year now in 5 different planes. I have 18 of these and my brother in law has 12 going. So far zero problems, just good running servos.

Will have to throw in with RCKEN. The Airtronics servos have been a very good friend in the past. I still use them with adapters on other radios.

Hitec hs485hb 72 oz of torque at 4.8v, bb and karbonite gears all for about 17 bucks. I have them in everything from my cub to a 90 powered aeroworks edge.

JR Sport ST47 or the JR NES-537. I also have Hitec HS-425BB and Hitec makes a good servo as well even though I'm loyal to JR. All I can say is we all have our favorites when it comes to standard servos, it would be wrong for me to say if any one kind of servo wasn't good. What makes a good servo all depends on what it's used for. JMHO

I use Futaba 148, 3004, and 3010 servos. I have about 30 148s that are 20+ years old and have never had one fail. Now they go on the throttle of every plane I have plus I have 148s on all controls on a 40 size high wing sport plane. I also have never had the 3004s and 3010s fail. Currently I like the 3010s the best for 60 through 90 size planes.

Dymond advertises their line in most of the RC magazines including Model Aviation (AMA mag.). I haven't been disappointed with service or quality.
