Default Fuel tank plumbing

Can (2) 1/8" brass fuel tank lines be soldered to form a 90 degree angle?

I was thinking of filing a 1/8" radius with a needle file on the end of(1) short tubing stub, then soldering that at 90 degree's to the side of the longer tube (that go's into the tank.)
Then soldering the end of the longer tube shut( at the 90 degree intersection.)

Finally, using a sharp, good fitting bit, drilling through the tubing stub into the longer tube.( and de-bur/clean)

Would a miserly (.061) Norvel even sense the potential flow reduction?

Thanks for any thoughts or SWAG's :-)

You don't need to do all of this, you can bend the brass tubing to 90 degrees, it needs to be done slowly & carefully to avoid collapsing the tubing. I have done it on several planes where the engine is really close to the firewall with no problems.
Hope this helps, also if you mess up the tubing your lo0cal hobby shop should have this in stock in 1' lengths

If you really have a hard time bending the brass, go to an Auto Parts store and get some 1/8" copper tubing. I use it all the time. it bends VERY easily.

You should also be able to get 90 deg angle adaptors at your local hobby store

I have 2 planes that are both over 9 years old that have had copper tubing since the day they were built.

No problems yet.

Thanks for all your replies.

I'm not too concerned with the hour or so I'll kill
cutting and soldering just need to make a clean, one piece
" RIGHT NOW" 90 degree turn.(pretty much just half a "tee fitting" in flow quality, w/o the bulkiness.

The main question is: Will the Norvel .061 (muffler pressure to tank) even notice this bottleneck through the clean, debured hole?

It shouldn't have any problems drawing fuel thru this, I am running a g-62 gasser thru a regular tank setup with no fuel draw problem, I know the norvel dosen't draw much fuel, should be ok.

Hey Minn,
Maybe you've developed a new engine type; ABCu. Aluminum piston in a Copper plated brass sleeve.

fill it with sand and bend it. If you fil it with sand, it will not kink however, an eigth inch is not a lot of space, you may need to fi another way

When I leave just that little bit (what the clunk doesn't pick up) of fuel it sometimes goes green, cos of the copper clunk in my tank, must be the methanol reacting with the copper.

Default bending copper tubing

If you do a search for this topic you'll find quite an extensive thread. A real easy way to bend copper tubing is to insert weed wacker line inside the tube and then it will bend w/o crushing.

I was the initiator of the tread about bending brass tubes (I needed to bend a tube 180 degrees) . The best method suggested in the thread in my opinion was in fact the use of weed wacker line

here is the tread
