Iwent down to a huge great place to try to fly after using the simulator for 2 weeks just doing training excersizes and some loops with the same model plain and the plain just got out of control immediatley. I was so dissapointed. I had 3 attempts at it until I finally wrecked it and am now letting the epoxy glue mixture dry on the parts I broke. Thank fully it was fixable.
What am I doing wrong? Imade sure the elevator was lined up nice and had a good up and down and the rudder the same thing. There's a guy I saw on youtube with my same trainer model and he claims it was his maiden flight and flew it and landed it great 3 times, not one wreck!!!!
I have the SuperCub LP.
What could be causing the problems????

A maiden flight is just the first flight of the plane, not the pilot. I have had too many maiden flights to count. A sim is used as a teaching aid, not a teacher. If you read enough threads all of us that have been flying RC for any length of time tell all new pilots to get an instructor and use a buddy box to learn. Learning on ones own can be done but it usually ends up costing a bunch in airplanes and broken gear.
Some of the small electrics are easy for someone to learn on there own but then they still have problems when they get into any bigger planes. Find an instructor!!

See Brian your last post tells all. You need help. All of us did. Don't believe Youtube. Flying RC takes time and practice and yes a lot of glue as you learn. Send me a PM with your zip and I will find a club close to you. Dennis

Lack of experience and proper training. No, a simulator is not a substitute for an instructor. Don't worry though, you're not alone. The Super Cub was my first plane and it lasted about two months before it became completely ruined.
I then went to an AMA club and got stick time on one of their trainers. It wasn't long after that and I was flying a PTS Mustang. A few summer's later and now I can fly quite an array of airplanes, including two I built from balsa kits. There was no quick and easy route.

The online store guy said if you can fly a lot of different models from a sim you can fly anything. I knew it would be different but I wasn't expecting what happened with the real thing.
Your words of wisdom really made me feel better about myself and it's going to take some time. Just like in almost anyting, you have to get through the suck period before you can get good which was a big lesson I learned when I self taught myself how to play guitar and piano, that's a whole different thing. These rc planes are like nothing I ever experienced!!!! I can't wait to get past the suck part.

G'day
I recently gave a flying lesson to a guy like you. He had bought two models and headed out to fly with similar results to you. He came to our club and I let him fly my trainer with me on a buddy box. By the end of his second flight he was happily flying the model around with no help from me. This is not unusual for a younger person. He will learn to fly quickly and be a good flier within six months if he keeps at it.
There are several things which makes flying a model difficult.
1. You are not in the model so you initially have to imagine you are or you can become disoriented very quickly.
2. You have to do several things at the same time in a three dimensional world.
3. Like most things, you have to learn to fly automatically and that takes time.
4. Models, especially small ones, can be hard to see and this makes the job harder.
But don't panic. You will quickly learn all these skills and most important, what you learn will be come automatic reflexes so that you will eventually find your fingers just do what they need to do without you having to tell them.
A simulator is a good thumb teacher but is no substitute for the real thing. By all means keep using it, as it will help, but real airtime is what you really need.
Hang in there, find a club and welcome to the world of model aviation.

A buddy box is a second transmitter hooked to the Master transmitter by a cord. The master has a switch that the instructor pilot can switch back and forth as needed to control the plane or let the student fly it. Buddy boxing is a REAL savor of planes and new people in the hobby/sport.
As said a number of times above : Get help, join a club and ENJOY our hobby instead of crashing all the time and wanting to quit. ENJOY !!! RED

CG is the point at which the plane should balance when supported by two fingers or dowels.
Normally the manufacturer recommends a point to be measured from the frontal edge of the wings.
If the plane is out of balance, it cannot fly properly.
Especially after you have glued the broken parts together, you need to verify that the plane balances at the recommended point.
Second, you need to verify that the control surfaces deflect in the direction that you command them to deflect via your transmitter.
I also back up the advice of seeking experienced help.
Read this article about how to balance properly:

Best luck with your learning curve, Brian!

CG - Center of Gravity
Time to pick a club and go for a visit to their flying site this weekend. Pick the member's brains. Don't treat everything someone tells you as gospel. Find out who the instructors are. Watch, listen and ask questions. Be aware that we all had to crawl before we walked before we jogged before we ran.
Check out the different types of planes - high wing trainers, low wing trainers, low wing aerobatics, mid-wing aerobatic, biplanes, warbirds, curiosities. Check out the type of propulsion (nitro, gas, electricity). Watch the fliers. If you're lucky you'll see good sports flying, pattern flying, maybe some 3D, maybe some thermal chasing, maybe some scale flying, how about a full on jet. Look at the workmanship (or lack there of). Check out the stuff that you find interesting. Ask about 'em - I'll guarantee that the owner will talk (maybe more than you initially wanted
).
Don't like a particular club? You've got a bunch to choose from.
The best thing you could do find is an RC mentor - somebody you hit if off with and that will get ya pointed in the right (God help ya) direction ...

Hello Brian,
CG is short for Center of Gravity. It is probably the most important thing to make sure you have right in order for any plane to function. The center of gravity is usually 30% back from the leading edge of the wing at the fuselage. I say usually, because 30% is a good starting point. However, it may take some adjusting which comes with experience. You learn to get a feel for how planes act when either nose or tail heavy and correct when needed. Your cubs manual should list the recommended CG. Along with control throws etc...

***EDIT***
To Clarify: 30% of the chord (from leading edge to trailing edge) of the wing at its root (or where it meets the fuse)

The manufacturer seems to trust the "Anti crash system" of the plane and the RTF condition for proper distribution of masses.
As recommended above, try to balance the poor thing at 25~30% of the distance between the aft and forward edges of the wing, measured back from the forward edge.
