Oh so you didn't have the ''Old Navy Tradition '' or privilage of having powdered green eggs, powdered milk, dried fruit, Spam and fresh fly larvae for fresh meat? My Father told me that no matter how hard you tried to avoid eating them, they couldn't always sift them out. The ''Flat Top Service'' and the supply ships had the best food and they even had ice cream, fresh eggs and fruit!
This newer US Navy is spoiled! LOL!

Well, to tell you the truth, I started out in the Nuke Navy, then, 7 years later, went to the Coast Guard. Being an Electronics Technician at the time, well, I didn't get down to the engine room much. But, when I did, well, it wasn't the most comfortable place on the ship. I did 6 years Navy time and 22.5 Coast Guard time.
But, my Navy time had me on Guam in the Spring and Summer doing sonar work on a boomer in drydock. Now, that's hot!!!
I had a Coast Guard tour on Marcus Island.. half way between Wake Island and Iwo Jima in the Pacific. The island was 3/4 square miles of white coral atol. There was a Loran ''C'' station there, 9970 Whiskey Secondary for the NW Pacific Chain. That was an interesting place. Yearly average temp was 79 degrees. The Summer temps hovered very close to 100 degrees with darn near 100% humidity. I also spent 7 years along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. So, this doesn't bother me all that much, as you can imagine.

HEY CG.......
How about the engine room or boiler room of a boat with steam turbines, and boilers in the gulf in the summer?
Bet you've seen that in your time.
Those guys would be down there slugging down coffee by the pot.

Now, I didn't say that.. Remember, I did some time on a Coast Guard ship and, well, for the first few days of a patrol, the food was pretty good. After that....

Yep. My father (while he was alive) and I have great respect for the USCG. That's a tough service. He told me the stories how you guys go out and do a constant triangle pattern while on patrol no matter the weather. Let me rephrase that " No matter how high the winds waves or ocean conditions are." It takes a man a special kind of guts what you USCG guys do. People talk about how some don't make it as a Marine, well many don't make the cut for the USCG.
The only thing my Father, Grandfather and Uncle "Pappy" hated the most about the Navy was they got real sick of only seeing ocean for many months on end. My Father also said if I ever joined the Marines he was going to personally kick my rear. Being in the LST Service he's seen enough what Marines went through to know. I could talk forever on this subject, that's part of ther reason why I joined a VFW. (Other than the cheap booze)
Oh by the way, I heard a ice cream truck in front of my house the other day and I grabbed my 3 year old Son to try and catch him. When we finally got out side I only found this left! I'm still trying to calm my Son down. So yes, NY State got very hot!

Gerry, my wife is really smart. What do I say if she catches me removing a wrinkle or two? Then she could say that it's the same concept then I'll be screwed! It's terrible! I don't know about anyone else, but when I take my wife to a Club Picnic, (she always wants to go) she can't wait to start talking with the other wives. If it isn't the black fly's or mosquitos biting me when I'm flying that bothers me, it's my ears that are constantly ringing that bothers me.
Other fellow flyers in my Club said they had the same problem with the ringing in the ear. I don't think our stock O.S. or Saito engines are that loud... are they?

I only have gas and big electrics (no slime here), and I hear the same sound. since it is not the power plants, it has to be the radio...

How HOT is it ?
IT'S SO HOT AND DRY IN OKLAHOMA.....the birds have to use potholders to pull the worms out of the ground.
….the Hot Wind doesn't Blow, it Sucks.
....the trees are whistling for the dogs.
....the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance ....hot water comes from both taps.
....you can make sun tea instantly.
....you learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
....the temperature drops below 95 F (35 C) and you feel a little chilly.
....you discover that in June, July & August, it only takes two fingers to steer your car.
....you discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
....you actually burn your hand opening the car door.
….you don’t wear shorts or you will burn the back of your legs when you sit on leather car seats
....you break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 A.M.
....your biggest bicycle wreck fear is:
"What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death"?
.....you realize that asphalt has a liquid stage.
....the potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter.
....the cows are giving evaporated milk.
....farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs
IT'S SO DRY IN OKLAHOMA that the Baptists are starting to baptize by sprinkling,
The Nazarenes are using wet-wipes,
Methodists are giving rain checks,
And the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water!
That's how HOT it has been for the LAST 5 weeks! 31 days over 100 F

Well, Pete, I gotta tell you.. my last patrol on the USCGC Comanche was a foreign fisheries patrol in the Pacific off of Northern CA, OR, and WA. When we left port, we went out about 25 miles and turned north.
Later on that day, the wind and seas picked up to the point where our progress was averaging - 2.5 knots for about 6 hours (yeah, negative progress).
At about quarter to one in the morning, I was on the bridge on watch as ships Navigator. I would do a "round" of weather sensors, a RADAR fix, LORAN "C" numbers, jot everything down, throw up, then wedge myself between the bulkhead (wall for you land-lubbers) and the RADAR indicator. We took a wave that put GREEN water (not the white frothy stuff on top of a wave, but the darned wave itself) up as high as the flying bridge. That was the first and last time (meaning that whole 4 hour watch cycle) that I was ever sick on a ship, Navy or Coast Guard.
Yup, it was nasty, and my last patrol before being transferred to NY City, Governors Island.

I broke out a sweat today, that doesn't happen often here. There is a monsoon moving in so the humidity is on the rise, 96 and 24. Up 20% from yesterday. It's not bad, I'm just not used to sweating.
I saw the rest of the country is sticking around 78%. My daughter in Kansas is not a happy girl right now.
Most everyone here over the age of 55 has served so what our troops are going through isn't any surprise. One of the local boys just got back and I was speaking with him. He said being as he was from Vegas there wasn't much difference in the climate in Afganastan most the time so he wasn't bothered. That was a surprise to me, I never thought much about it. I guess Vegas is good for other things then a play ground for grown ups.

I love the heat! I did 48 miles on my 'fixie' bike in ~2 hours and 20 minutes and it's pretty hilly where I live. Then I got to work on my airplanes all day. I love Sunday!

Well, It's a 114 F here in Palm Springs today, Dry heat or not ITS HOT!!! Visited Dons hobby shop. Nice place with anything you need. A few nice giant warbirds hanging from the roof! Don't think they would qualify for carry on luggage
and darn sure wouldn't check them for transport. They have a super nice field nearby operatied by the Coachella Radio Controlled Flyers Club, Paved runway, Control line ans heli pad, and spectator area, and a fully shaded pit area. Guys at the shop said there is not alot of flying going on this time of year, just too hot. Will be home late friday, back to somewhat reasonable temps.

Hey you guys, do what we do in Michigan. In the hot summer we bottle the heat up, store them in the barn and then in the winter we open the bottles and let the heat out.

Heat index is 117 here right now in Arkansas. Probably going to go up by the end of the day. I have a feeling the electric comany is going to demand my first born at the end of the month.
