The other day, I took the controls from a friend and flew a Hangar 9 Alpha RTF. It was the first time I ever flew an RC plane, but it was a lot of fun. I managed to pull off a few loops, rolls, and other maneuvers...to my friend's surprise. This could be a fun hobby--anyone else have some good "first flight" stories--and recommendations for a good trainer? I'm a complete noob and need seasoned advice. Thanks!

I got a question
what is your opinion of the alpha?

Default a: it's the only rc I've flown

I have nothing to compare it to, but it seemed fairly easy to control, with a decent amount of power. I might get one as a trainer, unless there's something clearly better out there.

The Hanger 9 Alpha is a good Trainer. I just SOLOed yesterday on mine. It took me about 10 weeks to go from start to SOLO. If you get the Alpha, change out the 3-bladed prop with a 10x6 prop after you are comfortable, for power reasons.

Still , if I had to do it again, I would have gone with a .60 size trainer. The last four weeks here have been 10 to 15 mph crosswinds. The larger .60 would have handeled better.

Thanks for the advice. We practice on a field adjacent to the ocean, and there's often a stiff breeze. A heavier plane might be a good choice.
