Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the forum and RC planes for that matter but have been doing a lot of reading here and elseware. Based on everything I have learned I decided to go with an Avistar MK II ARF, a TT Pro 46, and a Futaba 6EXA for my first plane.
My question is this, It appears like I will need to cut some of the front fuselage away to make clearence for the need valve on the left and the muffler on the right. I have the plastic adjustable engine mount. Is this normal or am I overlooking something?
Thanks,
Bob

Many planes you will have to cut away some of the front of the fuse. Do your best and remember to seal that area so fuel will not soak into it.

P.S. - TT Pro 46 - Nice engine, I have a couple of them and I can't say enough good things about them.

Excellent choices. Yes you'll have to notch the side pieces to clear the needle valve and muffler. It's normal. I would strongly recommend the Monokote version and not the sticky-back covered one.

On the TT 40-46 pros as you know have a rear slanted needle (far preferable over a remote type) and the entire carb needle assembly can be rotated up to about twenty degrees to put the needle at the most advantagous position. This will in no way effect the running of the engine. You just loosen the nut on the jam bolt untill it is flush with the end of the threads and tap it with a wood dowel then rotate the carb to the desired position hold it tight aginst the 'O' ring and retighten the jam bolt nut.
For your installation you can make a hole lined up with where the needle valve will be in the cheek cowl. Then reinsert the needle after engine installation. If the needle is not long enough for easy adjustment then just insert a length of .072 music wire in the needles end hole and tighten the metric set screw and make a ninety degree bend in the end at what ever length you need.
If the top of the cheek cowl is not much above the needle then just make a notch for the needle.

Check your c.g. carefully if you put a big engine on the Avistar... With my OS46FX I had to add some significant weight (3+ oz) at the tail to get the c.g. back to about 3.25" from the LE, near the back of the recommended 2.5-3.5 range.. Flies nice there, and the heavier and more powerful aircraft doesn't float around like the typical trainer. Fun!

Thanks to everyone for all of the inputs. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something simple. The hard stuff I usually can figure out; it's the simple stuff that trips me up every time 8-).
Thanks again,
