Default Bubble canopy for a hydro

Hello folks I'm over from the water side.
I have a hydro I'd like to put a bubble canopy on, thought some one might know where to locate some thing I might adapt. It's a 1/6th scale boat, the cock pit is aprox 5" L X 5" W X3" long.
Hope this is the right forum for this.
Thanks for any help
Pat

Looks like maybe one off a 4 star 60 (Sig) might work for you. I have a 40 size out in my shop I'll look at later and see if that's too small.

Are you just looking for the bubble canopy for that? I've seen folks build their own using 1 liter coke bottles and some canopy glue. I would bet that if John Buckner looks a this, he would have a good idea on how to make one.

I've been kicking around building some thing, it doesn't have to be clear, so fiber glass would work.
Canopy Glue?
I've used milk cartons and shoe goo

There is a canopy glue that applies milky but dries clear. Good stuff.. slightly pliable. I think Tower Hobbies has it.

There have been some posts here in this forum about making canopy's using 1 liter pop bottles. There is also some posts about using dye's to "tint" the inside of the canopy's that makes a pretty neat appearance. I will have to do some research in the forums, this goes back a ways, though. You might try it yourself, do a search and use several different search criteria. If I find something, I'll post it here.

I found this on my first search. I used "tinting a canopy" in the search engine:

I dyed my canopy with Rit dye using the following procedure:

Approximately 2 gallons of water
One cup of Salt
2 packages of Black Rit Dye and One package of Denim Blue
Tap water at 130 degrees
Cleaned the canopy with dish washing soap twice and handled it only by the edges
Let soak in dye solution for 60 Minutes.
I kept the solution hot by surrounding the container with 130 degree hot water. I got a very slight curl on one edge so Next time I will use 130 degree water but let it cool naturally.

The canopy came out a very deep black/amber that looks black to the eye.
There are other forumlas to the color of the tint. This particular one gives you a "black" canopy. Others give you a tan tint. Search it out and see what you can find.

It's called RC-56 and Tower does indeed have it:http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...XR529&P=ML

I use it on all my airplane canopies. However, since it's water based I'm not sure I'd use it on a boat.

You could carve one out of foam and glass it when you get the shape you like.

Thanks for the help guys

What kind of foam do you guys use, who has it?
The stuff I tried disolved, although I think it might work if I coated it with bees wax.

Not sure what kind of foam is polyester resin proof. Use epoxy instead, the fumes are nowhere near as toxic and it doesn't eat the foam.

Piper Chuck & CGR
Thanks for the help, couldn't find much in search
but I'll use epoxy on foam, hadn't heard that before.
I did look at a pop bottle, not quite right.

Glass R/C boat hulls are frequently built with epoxy instead of polyester. Idon't know the technical reasons for choosing one over the other, but both seem to work fine.
