Default Maiden on 2nd plane a success :)

I just maidened my new Ultra Stick 40 this evening. It was great and only required about 4 clicks of up elevator trim to fly level. On our grass runway it did want to put it's nose in the sand when i gave it gas so i had to hold in a little up elevator to keep it rolling. Is that normal?

Thanks!

Yes, grass may tend to nose the plane over a little. Try slowly adding power while beginning your takeoff roll. This usually solves the problem. Also check to make sure your wheels aren't binding. The main gear should spin freely. (I'm assuming the grass isn't in need of mowing.)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah the wheels are fine and the grass was freshly mowed. I guess it will just a take a little getting used to. This plane has 10X more "get up and go" than my trainer does

Other things to thing about. Make sure there is a flat spot in the top of your axle, not too big, but not too small. Make sure that your CG isn't too far foreword.

I too have a Ultra Stick 40 and have had the same problems, but they are all easily corrected. I have had mine for about 2 years, and i love it to death. I have had some crashes and things to fix so if you need anything in the future, don't be bashful!!!

I think Foxtrot was talking about a flat spot so the wheel collar locks on better. Good advice for ANY plane.
