RE: My son and I soloed yesterday!
Update #7
The kid keeps progressing nicely. He has now pretty much got the rolling circle down pat.
He is now flying an Ultimate 10-300 foamy and is really doing well. That foamy is flying so well that I am now building one. I look forward to him lighting up the skies with his Sig SE (he almost has it done).
I got my SE done and I am having a blast with it. It flies great with no bad habbits.
Many of us in the club are encouraging him to compete in IMAC next year and he is going to. He surely has the talent and the drive. It is really fun watching this unfold.
It will soon be time to get his younger brother on the buddy box. He is 6 years old now and starting to ask about it.
You gotta love this hobby!

Thanks bubbagates ... it sure is a fun hobby. I can't get enough of it!
I am putting together a Lanier 120 Stinger this winter with a US 41cc in her, should be fun.
I plan to put a smoke system on it. Should be a blast.

BTW...he'll love the SSE. I have one with an OS46AX with an APC12.25x3.75 when the mood strikes to do 3D, normally it has an 11x7 for normal areobatics. Just have him start out for the first flight with the throws at about 50% of book high then injcrease them when he is ready.
Dang thing is a blur at 1/2 throttle on high rates when doing a roll. Lomcevaks are a thing of beauty and wilh spoilerons turned on the thing will harrier and elevator just ever so sweet.
With the 11x7 prop I can climb at full throttle and let it run out of airspeed on it's own and it will just hang there with very little control input for quite some time.
Of course it's balanced slightly on the tail heavy side of the recommended CG and laterally. I needed about 1/2oz on the right wing. No other weight was needed

Update #8
Oldest son finished and now flying the SSE, loves it. Finished and almost flyiong a Modetech Hurricane sport/pattern plane. He and I are now working on a pair of Mojo .40's ... should be a blast. Oldest son got a job at HobbyTown USA.
Youngest son (7) has taken a few flights now on the buddy box. He loves it ... he is a club and AMA member and we built his first plane ... electric glider.
All I can do is

No no no, don't let him work at Hobbytown, he'll never bring home a check, he'll be working to pay off his account there. I know this to be fact, at least with me. I work part time and the LHS and just take off the amount I would have gotten paid from the account I have there.
Congrats though

RE: My son and I soloed yesterday!
He is actually saving his money for:
1. College
2. Car insurance and gas
3. A large airplane or heli someday ......
He is actually doing quite nice so far without spending too much.

No offense taken .... I am very proud of how my son allocated his money.
His sister, on the other hand, spends money like there is no tommorrow!
She will make a good wife .....

Just want to make sure of something.. If you are re-using your rubber bands be really careful. Glow fuel eats them. If they have any glow fuel on them they should be thrown out.

Update # 9
Youngest son Adam (8) is now training with my good friend ExCap232. Both instructor and student are doing great. Adam is learning smooth and coordinated turns as well as throttle management and took 2-10 min flights yesterday doing quite well. I am very proud of him. My oldest son Matt has not been to the field in a while and we joke with him that if he doesn't soon get out to the field his youngest brother will win his first IMAC competition before he knocks the winters rust off ..... of course he is 16 uears old now and planes aren't the most interesting right now for him. Hopefully this will change one day, I miss him at the field.
