Finally decided on a theme for my 1st kit ( Sig Kadet Mark II ) Being from Indiana I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner. Oh well, I have some extra colors of Ultracote for the next plane. Just need some Red and White for this one.
This is my 1st attempt at covering a plane, just finished my Elevator tonight..

Thanks for the color change suggestions guys, but I think I'll stick with IU. I won't even mention they're ranked #1 in the pre-season polls. Oops, looks like I just did.. Dang It !..Haha.. I know pre-season doesn't mean much, but after the previous coaches afterBobby Knight left, it's nice to see Coach Crean has put together a squad worth watching again... I almost didn't make it through the Mike Davis and Calvin Sampson years. They almost ruined the program.
Back to my trainer, I realized that the covering process is the hardest part of the whole build.. I cut my own letters out of Ultracote. That took forever. I used a graphics program to mirror the text and print it out.. I then took the printed text and used watered down Elmer's glue to glue it to the backing of the Ultracote. I'm not sure which is the correct side to cut through, but the back seems like it grips straight edges etc a little better and like I said I could glue my paper to it, so I been cutting through the back.. I know they're not perfect, but hey it's my 1st try, so I'm satisfied with them.
Well, I can't brag about the Tampa Bay Rays... althought they did much better than predicted during the regular season, nor can I brag about the USM Golden Eagles (my alma mater). So, I'll just admire the colors of Mr67Stang's and every else's colors and just wish the best when the maiden takes place. (and, of course, all after flights!!!)

I covered a Tiger 60 in orange with black tiger strips. I made the belly white. Now here in Bama if you have anything that looks like a tiger everyone assumes that you are an Auburn guy. So I had my local sign shop guy make me a decal that went all the way across the wing bottom. When I do a flybye it is clear to everyone. It reads "Roll Tide Roll". Fly those colors man. Hossiers is one of the best sports movies of all time!

I found a Google image of the "Indiana" in cursive and used a graphics program called Paint Shop Pro to enlarge and mirror the image.. I then cut it up with that same program into sections the size of my printer paper.. 8.5" x 11" or so.. I Scotch taped them all together and used diluted Elmer's glue and a paintbrush to glue them to the Ultraote's paper backing.. Cut it all out with a #3 scalpel with #10 scalpel blade..
It's not "Laser" cut, but I'm happy with my results...LOL
Wow...Fantastic..Your first ? Common now you gotta have some experience to be that good...Do you hone your blades to keep them sharp ? Or how do you get them to hold an edge ? Change them every few ft ..

Thanks for the compliments. This is my 1st. I couldn't imagine doing a plane without my computer, printer and a graphics program. It allows me to make mirrored images to glue right to the back of the Ultracote.. I still have to cut them out by hand, but I can't see spending a bunch of money on a vinyl cutter or plotter. I'm just a beginner so there are many small imperfections that bug me, but not enought to spend the cash on a plotter.

I've always been an IU fan, all the way from Bobby Knight throwing the chair through the horrible Mike Davis years.. Even watch when the cheating Calvin Sampson was in charge. So glad to have witnessed the rebuilding and the best thing to happen to IU in years, Tom Crean
