I would like an Extra but I can't find one that would be a good match for the older, slightly less powerful, 4 stroke compared to today's power houses. So I'm looking at getting a kit and building a Sig Four-Star 60. My main concern is if Iwill actually like this plane because of my flying style. I bought an Alpha 40 RTF a year ago, bumped the throws up within 2 weeks, and mastered it in only 2 months time then stepped up to a Stinger II with a .46 AXII spinning an 11x7 prop. I REALLY like the Stinger II and it does everything but hang the prop. It is what I would consider a high performance plane and I would like for the next one to be around the same; possibly more docile for the lazy days.
So do you think the Sig Four-Star 60 and the Enya .90 will be a good combo? If not, what would you choose?

This is an afterthought but it might help you guys help me in making this decision. I had a Hangar 9 P51 PTS but put it in the ground because I treated it like a sport plane and tried to do a low altitude maneuver with too weak of an engine for that plane; lost too much speed but managed to get the wheels down and level with the ground before it bellied. But then it caught a rock and cart wheeled losing both wings and sent the engine about 200ft away from the crash. I learned from there that war birds aren't my thing lol.

I had mine in an 8lb Pattern Ship and it gave a useful vertical performance.
The Enya .90 is a very fine engine. It'll be great in combination with your Four-star .60.

Why would you go from an Extra to a 4* even in thinking? Why not look at the GP 60 size Extra kit. There are maybe only about 100 light weight ARF Extras in 60 size on the market if you want an ARF. The Enya isn't as down on power as you think when compared with the OS and Saito. Down a bit but not a huge amount. I still use a couple of the older .91 OS engines in 60 size planes and I can't see any real performance differences. One of the best combos I have had is the OS .91fs and the Bridi 60 size Kaos. If you want a nice pattern plane in an ARF Great Planes now has the Bridi Dirty Birdy in an ARF or you can get the kit from Blue Jay Models.
In ARF everyone has a YAK or Extra in 60 size.

My line of thinking on the Sig 4* was because I've heard from other expierenced pilots that they are still alot of fun to them for the fact that it's more forgiving and you don't have to be one your toes the whole time; so in a sence, it's for the lazy days. But then again I still have my trainer and it's fun for the lazy days with all the modifications I've done to it.

Anything AW sells is of the highest quality. That's the reason for there higher prices too. The Enya is an outstanding engine and you will find most the ARFs like this will need the added weight up front. The Edge your looking at is also designed for 3-D use and has some very large control surfaces. Also go to the Tower web site and look at there 60 size Extra kit. It was designed more for IMAC type of flight. The last Enya I had I used in a big CUB. When I sold the plane I also sold the engine. It was really a smooth runner with very little vibration. No mater what plane you choose you will enjoy the engine.

I know the control surfaces are large on the Edge and it's rated for 3D; however, these things are partly the reason I was looking at it. I'm not sure if you've seen a Stinger II in person but the control surfaces on it are also large for an acro, and when set to high rates it gets interesting. With looking into doing this again, I think I might stick with the Edge 540 by AW and hope for the best. The only other plane that speaks to me is the GP Revolver because it's so sexy lookin, but I think I'll have more fun with the Edge. Thanks for the pep talk, lol.
This is unrelated but what % nitro did you use in your Enya .90? I'm thinking of using 15% or 20% with the head shim still in place, and because I'm at 4500ft elevation.

I have an Enya 90 in a 7 1/2 pound CAP 232. It flies very nice. I'm running a 14-6 but can't tell you what RPM. All I know is 200 foot diameter loops are easily done and it will climb indefinitely at about a 75 to 80 degree angle.
We have a guy in our club with the Revolver. It is a VERY nice plane. He has a 100 (OS?) in it. More than enough power. I think the Enya will do a fine job also in that airframe.

I only use one fuel for all my engines, 15%. I am not brand loyal but I have been using Powermaster forever. It was 15-18 but at one point they took the oil down to only 16%. Anything under 18% I add a couple ounces of either Red Line or Klotz. The Klotz is a blend and has 20% Castor in it. The Red Line is a full synthetic. I run YS engines and I just had to do a clean and repair on one that wasn't in use for about a year. Castor build up in one of the valve guides. I get my fuel at Hobby People when it's on sale and I would switch brands to a full synthetic if any would come up on sale like the PM does. $15.00 a gallon isn't too bad and this was the first time I have had a Castor problem.
