Well Mr. James, there are clubs well close enough for a Sweeny TX person. I suggest you go to AMA and find a local club and get some help.

The Carl Goldberg Falcon 56 was, in that day 1960-'70 era, designed as a TRAINER. The semi-symmetrical airfoil was very good for that since the nominal engine used was in the Glow .15 to .19 of the time period. The tail feathers were rubber banded to assist with the many less than good landings when newbie RC fliers went out to some open area and tried to fly that thing. It was one of the best trainers on the market, in its time period.
Your machine spent 20 years in a barn. Therefore it could be much more than 20 years old or just that, 20. I fly models older than that. Not a problem as I fly servos now that are older than that. If they are Airtronics and you use a modern radio, then the AT has a different set-up with polarity. Easy to slip the Pins out, and replace them in proper order. Black to Black and Red to Red and problem is solved.
Do check for Dirt Dobber homes in the model. I have that trouble for models in the barn and every so often. Even when I close all the openings, those @#&*^ fellows can find a place to build a home with the smallest opening.

Is your wing strip-aileron (later models) or is it 3 channel, using the rudder for roll? That needs to be determined. Rudder roll flying is a different item for the inexperienced, but with some dihedral it works well after some trials.
As for recovering, that is a job. Monokote was available before 1970. Have to strip the surfaces first. Dope and silk, or silkspan (paper base) works well, but it takes some time. Depending on your tastes, it will take 5-7 cotes to to hold up well. Back then I used about 10 coats for sport flying stuff and 20-25 coats, sanded, sanded, and hand rubbed for CL Precision Aerobatic and Scale models RC or CL.
Don't get discouraged.

Edited to add: 1970-179 I owned a Hobby Shop, Mt. Prospect, IL. (United Airline Pilot) That was the time period of great RC growth
and Carl Goldberg was both a friend and the greatest designer ever in the growth of model aviation in all modes, Indoor, FREE FLIGHT, CL and RC.
