Building Again

Well after about a 35 year absence I am getting back into RC airplanes. I posted about " Building in a hot shop" and it has not been a problem for me. Thought I'd share a couple of photos. Yes, a couple of opps moments. Worse was not properly securing wing flat when sheeting. I got a 5/8" wing tip difference. That took days to correct. I now have it at 3/32". I may have to leave like that. I've been to a couple of clubs and no one builds any more. It is ARF or RTF.
Last weekend I attended a local RC show. I got to fly an Ugly Stik. I did not do too badly but but still managed to lose control a few times. Airplane flying toward you was interesting. I now have an iPad app simulator and that issue is somewhat resolved.
My plan is to get a Futaba T10J with S 3004 servos. Still researching this but need the servos soon. Anyway I have been enjoying this building adventure.

It shouldn't be too difficult to eliminate the wing warp. You basically have a "D" tube wing design, except I don't see any shear webs between the spars. Shim the wing flat or with what ever amount of wash-out you want, then glue a vertical web to the back side of the spars between each rib, using 1/16" balsa. That will make the wing structure a D tube which is very resistant to further changes.

Yesterday I had to do some workshop cleaning. I rolled my building cabinet outside in the sun. The wing was shimmed, weighed and clamped. Later in the day I measured and found I was now 3/64" off. Looking better.
HighPlains, I do have sheer webs glued to front of spars. Just not visible in photo. I will take your advice and secure wing n add the rear webs. This will make it a box spar. I keep the wing weighed and clamped so maybe the last little bit will work out. Then I will keep it flat. Thanks for the tip.
I had a good supply of old lawn mower blades 1/4 x 2.5" off a 6' mower deck. I cut these into different sizes. They make good weights for model building IMO. I just need to paint them as they are showing signs of rust. May add some glue on felt to bottom.

Well, I am happy to report that the wing is straight arrow again. It took steam, water, windex, shimming, clamping and I believe heat from the sun and my shop. It also took a lot of time. I am keeping that wing flat until covered. Happy camper here. Now I can move on with the build.
