Default pull-pull rudder system

I'm not really a beginner, but I am when it comes to a pull-pull setup for my rudder. I have the Global Freestyle ARF and it came with the cables for the rudder. I ruined them when I couldn't get them threaded through the pin holes that tie them to the rudder and the servos. When I went to my LHS they only had nylon for a replacement. I used that setup, but I always seemed to have some "Play" in my rudder, like it was loose. When I finally decided to check what was wrong, I found the hole in the rudder that holds the screw that hooks to the nylon was bored out and too big. That's easy, just make another hole, but my real question is, is there a difference between nylon and cable and how tight do they have to be when installed? Thanks in advance
