Default Where to fly

hey all, I’ve been out of it for over a decade now but I’m back. The only thing is I don’t know where. I live in Winona Mn now, and the ama club is non existent. I’ve heard watlow field is an unofficial field but just want to make sure before I give it try. If anyone has any ideas I’d love to hear them. Thanks

Many other things posted on AMA lists are either late in being updated(such as no fly areas) or not up to date at all

Even if the AMA listings aren't current, they will provide the OP with a place to start looking, and it provides some contact information.

Just contacting these clubs may provide info about modeling activity close to his home.

Thanks for the replies, I’ll look into the ama listings, was kinda hoping to find a hidden gem here in town, somewhere to swing by on the way home from work or something.

Often times finding an AMA sanctioned field in a small town is impossible (because they're non-existent) but someone at the nearest hobby shop will be able to tell you. In our little town, for instance, we have three flying fields within a 20 mlle radius, none of them AMA sanctioned and all of them almost impossible to find unless you ask someone who knows.

If 45 minutes is too far to travel you can A) find your own open field, get permission from the property owner to fly there, then cut and groom your own runway, get insurance and start flying, or B) find something else to do, or C) put on your big boy pants take and the 45 min. ride to an existing field. Point is that model airplane flying sites are not always just up the street from where you may live and may require some inconvenience to get to. That's just how it is! Go figure.

Well, the hobby shop that is 45 minutes away probably has a phone. And you probably have a phone. Call them and ask. You're not required to present yourself in person to ask the man a question.

If anyone has any information on, or has even heard of watlow I’d love to know about it. The LHS is 45 mins away, so whenever I’ve asked they only know of local spot for them, no help, I’ve emailed the ama contacts listed on the website, mainly because I would really appreciate having someone to help me through the maiden on my plane, (it’s been far to long to trust my skills). The main purpose of this thread was to see if there were any local guys aware of watlow and if it is a real place. Thanks for all the help. I’ll be sure to put my big boy pants on.

Yup saw that quite a few years ago, and have never seen anyone there or heard of anyone using it. So again if there’s anyone from this area that has actual information on the site, would enjoy to hear from you
